i just got a positive feedback from a buyer who joked that they will probably return it if the Dodgers lose, because they bought a Dodgers item. i know it's a joke and all, but still because i have free returns i don't really think it's funny that this guy talks about abusing the system.

Since you know it is a joke & and a joke is never meant to be taken seriously.
Perhaps you are being just a little too
sensitive ?

You know it's a joke. Let it go. There are worse things to joke about.

The fact is: you really do not know if it is a joke or not and I too would feel uneasy about getting a return because the buyer's team did not win, even more so if the shirt was brand new and unused.
If you are voluntarily offering Free Returns and Free Shipping, you know it is an open invitation for buyers making returns without any consequences, however, leaving feedback: he will return it if his team loses is in poor taste and no joking matter.

I'm going to have to agree here. No one but the buyer really knows if it's a joke or not. I saw the feedback and I'd say it can go either way.
By now many ebayers know the benefit for buyers, and risk for sellers for having free returns. But I've never seen a buyer openly flaunt this "power." It's just as bad as if a buyer bought a Halloween costume from someone with free returns and left a feedback saying "I'm going to wear this to my party and return it for 100% of my money back. #FreeCostumeRentals"

Have you ever heard the saying "There's some truth in jest"? How exactly do you know they're joking? If you can mind read you should play the lotto and please don't forget my username if you win. I'm often good with money so I'm a sound investment.
You may want to reconsider your return policy. I personally don't accept returns, though I've been known to bend to polite messages asking me to do so. The last person that asked me for a return was almost 5-6 months ago, I declined and they still returned the two pairs of laces. Definitely in my top 5 oddest things to ever happen to me personally on eBay.
Given "some" sports fans like to burn merchandise or bin it when their team doesn't win, don't put it past anyone to want to return sports related items.

Relax, it's a joke. Don't let some scare you into thinking otherwise. Many of them think all buyers will steal, lie and cheat you.

Some buyers just enjoy rubbing it in, knowing they can return an item on your dime. Sounds like a bandwagon fan to me. 😀

If they're a die-hard Dodgers fan, they won't return it. Die hard fans don't return stuff just because their team loses. If they do, then they're not true fans.
If he returns it, he returns it. That's part of business when you accept returns. Accept it, write off the return costs as a loss and relist it.

i don't really think it's funny
If everyone thought that only the same jokes were funny, the world would be a pretty boring place.

In today's ebay I wouldn't assume that anything was a joke.
