Buyer fraud

hi all good seller,

Please be careful with the fraud. We sold the porcelain set and it is from our family. We post " look like new" because we used two times and put in storage for many years. It is a rare set and we sold only half of market price.  When receiving items, a buyer bought it and claimed that the posting not same as description because plates have gold loss not look like new. We asked for proving pictures and be provided with 4 plates and two cups that have gold loss.  Then this buyer asked us to refund $200, almost half of selling price. Then even worse, the buyer made up  story about more than half of the set have gold loss.  We knew the set very well and in details. We pulled out the set and packed one by one when we ship. We took a picture of them and even felt bad when we sold them.  We knew the set in details and have all pictures of a set in file. We disagreed about asking refund of $200 as we told the buyer and told the buyer that we accepted the returning items, and provided the returning shipping label and waiting for items back.  However,  the buyer still does not want to return and kept insisting that not in description. Within that afternoon ( the same day that buyer opened the case and we accepted the returning and providing shipping label), the case is closed and the next day, we received an email to inform that ebay refunded the money for that customer. How can eBay allow these fraud buyers? If so, eBay encourages them to buy rare items from others and just do that for free? Even seller accepts a returning and they still do not want to return and still keep them for free money... How can this buyer can get free money with the value set in hand even without passing the limited time for the resolving case, and even we resolve the case right away when we smell the fraud from this buyer????

Re: Buyer fraud

I'm annoyed that Ebay refunded the buyer out of pocket in this case.

Its a rare occurence and I feel this case didn't warrant it... but what do I know? I could only imagine if it's because the shipping was so ridiculously high they felt bad for OP, but idk

It sounds like there was a disagreement with the condition but that does not mean it was a fraud buyer.

Did you tell the buyer you would accept return if they paid the additional $100.38 shipping?  This could be why eBay authorized a refund.  Do you know if it was a full refund or just the $200 they requested?

and I forgot to mention, after we accepted the return, and received email from that buyer and  she mentioned that did not intent to return. Then we got message from ebay next day that they refunded the buyer full amount without impact to us. However, I felt so strange too.

Re: Buyer fraud

@ajs_coins_and_alchemy   Correct. I never said Ebay gave a FULL refund. They gave what the buyer asked for. It is actually not that uncommon and typically if a buyer does not have a habit of asking for returns Ebay give them a one-time curtesy. OP, I am sure you learned something out of this, never try over-describing, always try to describe as if you are selling without pictures. Saying like new is what got you in trouble.

Re: Buyer fraud

one saucer and one cup of the set are selling on etsy for $100.99. That why buyer does not want to return and still wanted a refund for $200 for few pieces of gold loss, then finally the buyer got all for free...

Re: Buyer fraud

Ah about that negative feedback, we emailed to ebay and said that is not truth statement ( they can check thru the exchanged email). We told buyer that we disagreed about refund $200 so we accepted the return and provided the returning shipping label.  When you accept return, there are three options of purchasing shipping label:  by clicking buy shipping return in ebay or provide own shipping label. We checked  the one from ebay. Then we emailed to buyer and said we had accepted and buyer mentioned that she did not want to return. If it is not fraud, why buyer just insisting for $200 and do not want to return the set, provided us pictures of 4 plates and two cups with gold loss but claims more than half of a set? we offered portion of refund for the plates that they provided pictures but was declined also, so we just accept the return. Everything we just done within an afternoon, and buyer also provide untruth negative feedback? Do you think to be fair for seller when you tried to resolve thing, but buyer gives you just one option: refund $200 and not returning?

OMG, look at the prices! have a large box of those dishes - tea set for 7 or 14 or something, I don't know, I inherited it.  I was going to donate them but maybe I'll reconsider. 😮

Re: Buyer fraud

Unfortunately eBay sides with the scammers 99% of the time. I'm dealing with the same thing with a $500 laptop. Used the magic "not as described" reason - but in eBay messaging admitted he just changed his mind. eBay read that, acknowledged he abused the return system - and still refunded him. I did get the laptop back. But I also have $200 in fees and shipping. My recourse - and it's still ongoing - was to file a fraud dispute with my bank against eBay.
