Buyer demanding refund, threatening chargeback over 120 days later

Hi, I had a buyer purchase a handbag jan 4th,  the bag was delivered jan 13th.

120 days from January 13th is may 13th.

 

Buyer is contacting me saying that they didn't carry the bag until April and realized it was not leather and not authentic.

This claim is completely false. The bag is 100% leather and 100% authentic.  I accept returns no problem for any reason within the 30 day ebay guideline.

credit card companies allow chargebacks for up to 120 days.  Since it's been longer than that. Am I in the clear.   Should I respond to buyer or no?

Credit Card issuers can certainly go longer than 120 days and some are less.

I would probably let that one ride.  No response needed.

Depends on the card, some are longer then 120 days.

The buyer no longer can use MBG since too much time has past. They may still be able to file a chargeback through their credit card or PayPal since they still have time left from the 180 days depending on the credit card.

I had a buyer doing a chargeback after 260 days...LOL

Do not respond to buyer.

If chargeback is opened...which a buyer can do on eBay...eBay steps aside and you are dealing with buyer's bank.

Go and google bank credit card chargebacks...stated 2 billing cycles. It all depends on the bank.

The most important response is be polite and businesslike to an open claim if one happens on eBay...Funds will be held if one opens.

I contested and have won without tracking....it's more on the 1000 word essay you do and download a document(photo) on eBay...I did a draft first before responding to the issue and just downloaded a photo of something which had nothing to do with the dispute.

Read the rules of disputes online...and mention them in your dispute if one is open...everything because of the time frame is going your way.

Just a little note about Paypal:

 

They recently changed how they handle disputes.  For items not received, the buyer has 180 days from the date of payment to file a dispute.

 

For not as described items,  a dispute must be opened within 30 days of the date of delivery or within 180 days of the date you paid for the item, whichever is earlier.

So some good news there about SNAD disputes - no more six month SNADs!

It depends on card as people say.

 

If its paypal they will make them send the item back on buyers dime before refunding.

 

Probably best to BBL them and see if something happens then deal with it from there.

 

Could simply be an empty threat trying to get at a better price.

 

But yeah, I'd call their bluff, just not tell them I'm doing so.

Something like this, I don't respond to and BBL.

 

I don't believe they can even leave FB anymore at this point so you don't have that concern either.

 

Whenever a buyer makes ridiculous claims that are either scammy or just show their ignorance or lack of knowledge, I just ignore them. I

Thank you for that. I did not know PayPal changed that.

 

That makes PayPal better.

 

However, I still don't like that they expect buyers to pay return shipping when an item is SNAD.

 

Because of that as a buyer I use my CC directly as they would never have me pay to return.

Yeah, Paypal has always required the buyer to pay for a return regardless of the reason. Kinda stinks in the case of a legitimate SNAD.

Hmmmm...."Log into your Pay Pal account"...most buyers use credit cards which Pay Pal receives the money.

Need to understand what you mean by "Pal Pay" account.

Pay Pal is an account where people can receive and give money...if you have that account set up with am email account.

Pay Pal has also a credit card like Mastercard or American Express Credit cards.

Pay Pal has also credit for only purchases you can make on eBay....credit...not a credit card.

I've had a Paypal account since 2000, so for 24 years.

 

You don't need a credit/debit card attached to Paypal to use it.  You can pay directly with funds you have in your Paypal account (for example, someone pays you for something with Paypal, that money gets put into your Paypal account).  You can also pay through Paypal using your bank account (commonly called an e-check).

 

A person never needs to attach a card to their Paypal if they don't want to.  Adding a credit card and paying with Paypal using that card just gives an added layer of protection, for what it's worth, which really isn't much since all credit cards give at least 120 days to file a dispute/chargeback.

ok, i'm not going to respond.  question. how do i find out what credit card or bank they use if chargeback goes to ebay and then to me. will ebay give me that info

a) You can choose to not reply to the buyer.


b) I have sent an 'authoratative' message to several buyers and never heard back from them.
eBay considers 'all sales final' after 60 days. That is also our store policy.
A buyer can not submit a return request. Menu choices disappear over time.
A buyer cannot print out a return label.
A seller cannot issue a refund.
The seller fees are not refundable.

I have never be given that information on a chargeback from eBay or AMZ. 

I just respond to the chargeback.
