So I listed a Macbook pro as an auction the past week and someone bid a little higher than market price at the last moment, which I thought was a little suspicious. I sent it yesterday but today I woke up to a return claim where the person said, "This guy sent me an iPAD BOX WITH BOOKS inside of it !! THIS IS NOT THE ITEM I ORDERED, I WANT MY FULL REFUND NOW".
Ebay said to accept the return for now and file a false buyer claim after. I am scared because everywhere I am reading that seller do not have a good chance of appealing the refund. What should I do from here? How can I prove to Ebay that I sent a Macbook pro? All I have is photos of the sealed laptop.

See post #15; how did you ship yesterday and buyer opened return this morning? What does tracking show? Does it even show it has been delivered yet??

You sent it yesterday and they've already received it and are complaining about it?
Does that not seem a little bit odd?
Have you contacted the buyer and asked them if they are sure they are addressing the right seller?

Doesn't matter when they do it. Their intention is to scam, start the process etc.
What OP will have to do is when this scamming piece of bleep returns the pile of bleep he intends to return is to file a police report and go through the appeal process on ebay with said report and when ebay sees that someone is willing to take legal action they will fork over the money.. from their own pocket mind you.. the scammer is obviously not held accountable and will probably be allowed to repeat the process a few times before they shut him down.
Also .. Macintosh products are the #1 targeted scam items because hipsters pay big buck to be able to show that they own one while sippin soya latte at their favourite starbucks.

You listed on eBay a brand new still in box Mac Book Pro with a retail value at Best Buy of $1,999.00, with a starting price at $1,399.00?
Doesn't make any sense.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Sorry to add this but you will also get a 1099 next year. Refunds are counted as gross transactions.

I cannot stress enough what others have said -
CHECK THE TRACKING IMMEDIATELY ON THE USPS SITE AND IF IT HAS NOT BEEN DELIVERED GET A PACKAGE INTERCEPT IMMEDIATELY.
Even if it is marked out for delivery, dig around and get the local post office on the phone and talk to the postmaster there - they can get in contact with the driver and stop the delivery from happening. I did that just last summer with a scamming buyer.
Even if you get a neg on your account over it - it's better than losing a $1900 iPad.

My point was that it hardly seems possible for a buyer to have received a package in just ONE DAY unless he lives just down the block.

He's just following a script.

Who is "just following a script"?

Magical thinking, I guess, but maybe USPS will one day offer a service to x-ray packages when it goes out for delivery and have the scan emailed to the the sender. Then it would be proof a laptop and not a book was in the package.

The buyer must be in a reasonable distance from OP . You can file police report at the precinct— you will need it for ebay appeal. SEE IF POLICE CAN MEET YOU AT BUYERS ADDRESS

I think they meant the scamming buyer. Following a method that has worked in the past to get a freebie.

You are a new seller and so attracted the scammers like flies to the proverbial dung heap. How Ebay allows new sellers to list expensive items that are very high on the scam list is beyond me and as as far as I am concerned it is simply criminal. I would not be surprised if you also lost that other Macbook you sold.

I would contact the buyer and let him know 100% that you shipped an iPad and ask for his assistance on any information on when/who/how the package was delivered. See if there is any GPS/Weight/Damage info on package delivery from Carrier. Let the buyer know to please provide any info ASAP and to please cooperate with Police/FBI/Fraud investigations as you will need to file Police/Internet/FBI reports if the mystery can't be resolved ASAP.
Follow through with filing. Include police report with your eBay appeal.
