Buyer cancels order, then asks for discount

Just when I thought I've seen it all. This guy just bought multiple items from me. He then files a cancellation request for all 4 items. Five minutes later he messages me "Please don’t cancel the order. I'm looking for a discount."

Is this a new negotiation tactic?

OMG if it is, it is one I won't participate.

If this was me, I'd eat the PP costs, cancel all the purchases and then block the buyer.  I absolutely would not tolerate this behavior nor entertain it in any way.  But that is just me.

I'm with Mam...that's really rude and ballsy!!  Don't give in or the brute will go on and on with other sellers too!

Some people!

I just had a potential buyer tell me they wanted an item, and two more, but she'd be picking them up so send an invoice excluding the shipping charges.  I wrote back and informed her we don't do local pick up, shipping ONLY!  They weren't a newbie at all, so not sure why they thought they could just breeze by and pick it up?

Some people!

I haven't thought it thru yet as I haven't experienced this. I wonder how ballsy will this guy be if I just decline the cancellation and just send the items. Will he be ballsy enough to SNAD me, return 4 bricks and ultimately get only 50% refunded minus shipping. I think that's the worst case scenario.

He's 170 feedback and only left 1 positive feedback in the last 6 months.

Oh I wouldn't recommend that.  Well unless you don't mind if they leave your bad FB and do what you describe above.

For me, I just wouldn't choose to play.  Cancel and move on.  And put them on your BBL.

But if the sale is important to you, do as you describe as in the end you need to do what you think is best for you.

Thanks for the advice. One thing I'm gonna at least do is message back for clarification and play dumb. I have the entire weekend to ponder this one.

I wonder how likely will this guy neg me anyway if I accept the cancellations if he's the type of guy who would neg me if I send without discounts. Either way though, I should be able to get it scrubbed... concierge service is actually pretty powerful (as long as it's not being abused).

Depends on what they say in the FB.

Have you looked at this buyer's FB left for others yet?  If not, you should.

Yes I mentioned it in message 4. He's 170 feedback and only left 1 feedback (positive) in the last 6 months. No negatives.

Cancel and block, no negotiations.  And don't communicate with him in any way.

"Great! Let me know when you find it!"

Um, no, actually I would just accept the cancellation requests (specifying Buyer Requested for each one), put the buyer on your Blocked Bidder List (here), and quietly move on.

Wait, one other thought: Is it possible that he bought 4 Immediate Payment Required items and is hoping to combine the Shipping charges if they all fit in one box?

Buyer,

These items are not eligible for a discount. Let me know by the end of the day if you want to cancel your order otherwise it will ship out as scheduled.

Things were so much easier before this PayPal fee fiasco. Being able to cancel and block for free was nice.

Once you're in managed payments you won't have to worry about PayPal keeping fees. The only non refundable fee on a canceled order will be the 25 cent per listing fee. This will still be a blow to sellers who sell across multiple listings to one buyer, though.

All sellers on the .com site with a registered US address will be opted in to managed payments by the end of the year.
