Horrible eBay Customer Service

I have been an eBay Buyer/Seller for a very long time. Never have I had an experience like what I'm about to tell you:

" I had listed a 2019 Macbook Pro 15" Brand New in the Box from Apple. It sold in NJ. Buyer contacted me right away that he had changed his mind and didn't want it. I asked him he had to initiate a cancel transaction and I would refund him. He then, contacted me again and said to proceed with the shipping. (Everything is documented via eBay messages). I shipped the laptop via FEDEX 2-day delivered to buyer's door. He got the laptop and told me over the phone he changed his mind again. I said Ok, ship it back but you will lose any shipping charges and Paypal fees.( Paypal makes the seller pay for their fees even if the buyer is returning the item-CORPORATE GREED at its best) So, the buyer shipped the laptop back and I refunded him right away his money, minus the fees. In the meantime, the buyer opened a dispute claiming the laptop box was damaged in the corners; COMPLETELY UNTRUE, I have the laptop and it is just like you buy at the store. eBay then refunded the buyer in full and also made me pay his shipping charges.  SO DISAPPOINTED with the whole transaction. I called eBay to appeal my decision and provide proof for my appeal. Customer Service told me that they totally agree with me and they reviewed all the messages between myself and the buyer but they won't do anything about it. What kind of APPEAL is this? And I even have a store and pay subscription fees for eBay. LOSERS!!!

That's how the box is from Apple because of the plastic wrap. it is not damaged.

Buyer changed his mind 3 times, yes, no, yes.

Horrible all the way around, and then you hear more bad news from eBay C/S.

On the upside, you're lucky you got your property back.

Bottom line is that in the contemporary online retail world any customer has the right to return any item for any item for any reason.  You are lucky that the buyer paid return shipping.

First, let me say sorry you were blind-sided in this way. Ebay looks out for buyer’s interests and sellers are essentially on their own. The most you can hope for is to know what to expect upfront, and prepare oneself for possible fraud by keeping abreast of the policies and procedures governing the site.

Second, are you saying the buyer was refunded twice, once by you with fees withheld, and then again in full measure by eBay? Ebay removed the full amount from your PayPal? Or did they refund just the withheld fees, the balance remaining?

While this is hardly comforting, you are indeed very lucky you got your item back and undamaged. The situation is that a seller can be easily defrauded by a buyer opening a bogus Money Back Guarantee case to ensure a full refund. As a longtime buyer and seller, i am surprised you were not aware of this. You are selling very expensive, high fraud items and i am assuming have not been scammed prior to this.

It is no longer possible to withhold shipping and fees (specifically no restocking fees) from a return unless you meet certain criteria, such as offering free returns or being a Top Rated Seller. Terms of sale also must be spelled out clearly in your listing. No where does it state you will withhold your expenses from a return.

Other more experienced members will hopefully post more helpful advice to you by morning. If your appeal was declined, i cannot think where to go from here except to see if one of the eBay community reps can intervene on your behalf. Meanwhile, was the buyer refunded twice from your PayPal, getting a double refund? If so, surely something can be done to rectify such an egregious error.
