Buyer asked why I don't ship to their State???

There is a first time for everything and I suspect some inexperience on the part of the Buyer might be the problem.

I recently had an auction end and I sent the invoice.  Shortly thereafter I received a message asking why I don't ship to their state?

I took a screen shot of the invoice and responded but still was miffed about what they might be seeing at their end that would indicate I don't ship to their state?  I've heard nothing back from them ...

Has anyone else run in to this?

Which listing was it, and which state is involved? I think Alaska/Hawaii can be excluded if a seller so desires.

Sold item = 333640612980

State = TN

I ship to AK & HI

Huh. Well, I got nuthin'. Your buyer has a feedback count of 4846 and has bid on over 100 auctions this month alone, so I think we can rule out newbie status as a possible reason here. I'm thinking it might be a transitory payment glitch that disallows the payment and tells the buyer that the seller (you) cannot accept payments.

I experienced that one first-hand in my buying account last month, and after trying all kinds of workarounds, I gave up and tried it again about 6 hours later... at which point everything went through normally.

You might just need to get more details or a screenshot from the buyer here. At least he's not a newbie, so you might be able to get some clear answers about what is going wrong at the present time, compared to what should be happening.

Oops ... I gave you the wrong item number ... try this one ... 333640612984

No, he isn't, although there's an unrepaired bug on the Sold Items page that fails to retrieve the feedback count under some circumstances, showing a zero instead.

Per my other "oops" post, I snagged the wrong item number ... try this one ... 333640612984

You could invoice again but before submitting it, manually enter a shipping amount.

I've not idea about the tax section, however.

Invoices can be sent and then sent again with changes, whatever the most recent change is will be shown when the buyer clicks PAY FOR MY ITEM

I was a little confused by the Invoice that did not have the TN tax preloaded ...

Only 1 out of 12 since late Friday night the 3rd ... Buyer has only been a member (on the Buying ID) since Jul 2, 2020 ... I suspect the issue is at the Buyer's end ... 333640612984

I just scrolled through your sold auctions and the one you mention as the problem is the only one that states shipping not specified.  I also wasn't able to enter my zip on that one to get a quote.  You might do sell similar on that listing to see if something looks funky with the shipping information entered initially on your end.

Is it possible to bid on a Calculated-Shipping listing without having your correct ZIP code stored? Without that, the system can't determine the Shipping cost to be billed to you.

Wait a sec...

Okay, yes, there's a problem with that listing. It's showing me "Shipping cannot be specified," and on the Shipping tab, even though my own ZIP code is showing as usual, I'm seeing, "Shipping cost cannot be calculated. Please enter a valid ZIP Code." Beyond that, I cannot see what the root problem might be, but something is amiss. The listing shows an Item Location of Strasburg, Pennsylvania, but could its ZIP code be missing behind the scenes?

Okay @fern*wood  and @a_c_green  ...  you helped lead me to the problem ... as fern suggested I did a Sell Similar and scrolled down to the shipping section and guess what?!?   Instead of package dimensions of 8" x 4" x 3" all those numbers went in the length window and nothing in the W x H ones ...

I'm curious though that I was allowed to list it with that info ...

Now, despite that issue, I did send an invoice with the shipping price ... there still may be problems within the system for that length dimension which is way beyond USPS's capabilities ... good grief, that's almost half way to TN from here!!!

The listing form programming should have caught that, but there's no evidence that eBay coding has any QA testing or peer review, so dumb stuff like that, allowing a package 843" long with no thickness or height, tends to get out into the wild before it gets reported by one or more users.

Right, but Tennessee is a wide, thin state (principal crops: rhubarb, asparagus and spaghetti), so the distance to TN kind of depends on which way you're holding the package.

They grow spaghetti in TN?  Gotta get me some of that ... package orientation would be north to south ... any chance they have okra too???

I found it particularly interesting how you managed to keep that 843" long package under 1 lb.

I may yet have to start taking lessons here.

Helium. Pump in enough and the package provides its own Air Mail delivery. Just glue fins on the back end, step outside, point it in the general direction of Tennessee and throw it as hard as you can.

Easy... Anything 1 dimensional is logically weightless. We can't even see it in real life.

I see, I was under the impression that any package had to default to a 1" dimension as a minimum if no dimensions were entered so that an 843" long package was also 1" wide and 1" high (again by default).

I learn new things every day.

Okay, this is the part of threads I like ... once the problem has been resolved, we get to delve in to quantum physics, humor, conjecture and supposition ... VERY rewarding ... VERY enlightening ... VERY enjoyable ... VERY creative
