So I had a buyer win a couple of auctions and asked me to combine shipping as it was several small pieces. So I did and sent them a new invoice. They then replied saying that the total was too much and to cancel the order. They literally wrote "Cancel my order" in the messages.
So I did.
Now they are coming at me asking why I canceled and they were still waiting on the invoice, but they acknowledged the total price from the combined invoice in their previous message?
Should I be concerned as a seller with their behavior? I have the proof of them asking to cancel in my messages. Since they never paid in the first place, can they leave negative feedback? All I did was what they asked. Not my fault they weren't happy with the price of shipping after I combined it all.

OP is perfectly fine to cancel with the reason Buyer Requested Cancellation. I don't even think there's a way for a buyer to cancel except in the first hour after a sale.
They sadly CAN leave FB, but eBay will remove it if they do. If they leave a NEG or NEUT just go here
https://www.ebay.com/sellerhelp
follow the links for FB removal. Tell them that the BUYER requested the cancellation & to see the proof in your My Messages. Should be deleted quite quickly.

They may have gotten you mixed up with another seller.......I'd just quote their previous message to you with a polite........"I don't understand" message.........

You're first mistake was YOU canceling the sale. That is going to be a hit on your metrics. You should have told THEM to put in a request to cancel the sale.
Then it would all be on them.

Yeah, I guess I should have. After several hours they hadn't, so I went ahead and did it. I don't sell all that often (just when I want to get rid of stuff I don't need or want anymore, certainly not a business, just an individual trying to declutter), so I didn't know about the metrics thing until afterwards. Not even really sure what all it means.

I did send them a screenshot of them asking to cancel. They said the image was too blurry to see. I feel like they may be trying to play games, cuz obviously you have to click on the image to make it bigger and clearer.

That's good to know that I'm covered based on the message they sent. I'm less stressed now. Thank you!

No. Buyers cannot “cancel a sale”. The seller is the only one who can actually cancel. And buyers can only put in a “request” in the first hour. Otherwise they have to send a message asking. And no this will not affect OPs metrics if they canceled for the correct reason given. (Buyer asked to cancel)
