Buyer Wants a Refund, Reasoning, Card Won't Grade What He Wanted

I sold a football card, clearly stated in the description that the corners all had some whiting to them.

Buyer wins, pays, I ship. A day later I get a message saying he missed in the description where I put the corners were slightly dinged, and that he wanted to send it out for grading, but couldn't because it was dinged and he wanted a refund or money off.

He then went ahead and started a return and this is his reasoning:

Return Reason
Just didn't like it
Comments
Per our convo I didn’t realize the very slight damage to the card was present and was planning to send this out to be graded

I talked to a customer rep about it and basically he said oh well.

I thought eBay was cracking down on this stuff? He's buying stuff, looking it over and it if won't grade high, he's wanting to return it. I can't even leave him negative feedback to warn others either.

I'm going to accept the return and block him, but this is some shady business.

I don't see the problem you are having    He just didn't like it.   That is an honest reason for the return.   Much better than NAD, where you get stuck with paying for shipping.    This is a part of online selling.  This happens to all sellers.  Take it back and sell it again.

@sgc_collectiblez

What's the issue? I'm not into trading cards, but I think if I purchased a record album, expecting it to be in pristine playing condition, and it wasn't, I would want to return it.

This isn't shady. If the item isn't up to the buyer's specifications as to what he wants in his collection, get the return and relist it. If you make an issue out of it with the buyer, it most likely won't go well

Re: Buyer Wants a Refund, Reasoning, Card Won't Grade What He Wanted

I just had a PSA 10 card that the buyer was allowed to return (even though I don't accept returns), because he said there was a scratch on the back of the PSA case...... I feel your pain, but nothing you can do. In my case eBay allowed the return, but wouldn't require him to send to an authenticator so now I am waiting patiently to see if I receive the item I shipped or a fake slab.

I have had other cases where someone wants to return for no reason, but because my shipping policy is no returns I have been allowed to deny the return.  Make sure you have that option selected if you don't want returns.  It still wont help if they just lie and give some other reason for the return, but it might help with some.

If you don't accept returns and if they chose a remorse reason, you don't have to accept the return.

Buyer can always go to their payment source and dispute it, then they'll get a refund and probably keep the card.

Have a great day.

I also do not accept returns, but have learned it doesn't matter.

As mentioned, I am going to do the return and I will re-list it.

I guess putting the corner whiting in the description just wasn't good enough....

Most likely missed due to using eBay app. It's a scorn to all sellers as the description is hidden under an obscure click.

It's possible it was a purchase on a iPhone or cellphone of the eBay APP...where the description is not shown...just a photo and the title...and the buyer has to find where the description is and clink on that.

We all hate returns but it happens.

It's a good learning experience as well since you also purchase cards and probably re-sell the better ones you get.

So, you can do the same thing as this buyer...only you are able to re-sell them because you are much 'smarter' than the average buyer of cards.

Think of yourself as the cooler person who is a seller and a buyer and that you can do more than a lot of collectors.

The most important reason for 'no returns' (in card categories) is the shortening of the MBG window to 3 days. INADs will always require a refund when done in time. "Didn't like it" should have been deniable as a remorse return though if that was the reason the buyer used.

That said, multiple whitened corners would put the card at EX condition and NOT the NM you posted it as. IMO the buyer actually has a valid claim for that reason.

And no, many buyers will never get to the description especially on the app where it requires extra clicks. Hence, the condition box has to be accurate.

my guess you won't get it back, but tracking will show delivered.

I see you stated "Too right corner has whiting, other 3 corners very small amount of whiting" in the description.

Can you not also add that to the 'condition'?
