Hello,
I sold a baseball card for $4,700. Seven days later buyer claims the card has two deep groves in the card. The buyer has negative feedback: SCAMMER! Canceled my order 7 days later? No response! Repeat offender! Boot him!
During conversation with the buyer he states:
"I could have bought the same card for 1,600 look it up!"
"You won't have any problem reselling this card!"
"You think it is worth so much then resell it. whats the problem pal????"
So its basically is a "He said, She said" with pictures. But clearly he has buyers remorse. I would never have sold anyone a card for that much money with damage.
This is what I shipped:
This is what he claims:
I have contacted eBay and they state that the buyer is allowed a refund based only on the claim. Which shows a very altered and distorted picture.
I accepted the return by mistake while uploading photos. (Which apparently is a very common occurrence) Now eBay wants me to accept the card and open a case afterward.
Any recommendations or advice would be appreciated.

You really have no choice in this. Provide a return label and refund after return..unless you want a major defect and probably negative feedback.

I would highly recommend your goal at the moment is to recover the card. If you end up fighting this the buyer could end up keeping both the card and refund. You may have the option of keeping up to 50% of the refund via eBay rules upon the return and refund. You would have to check with them. I realize this is not what you would like to hear, but some of us sellers have been where you are. Good luck.

Since you have a no returns policy, you are not eligible to deduct anything from the refund price.

If the Return reason IS Buyer's remorse, can't the OP still deduct the original shipping cost from the refund?
When I used to sell 'No Returns', that was the only protection I had. Has that changed?
What exactly is the reason the buyer cited in the request?

The buyer is claiming the card had two deep creases, and thats the reason he is using to return the card, and Ebay has told the op to accept the return. And told him to dispute it later, after closing, which is useless of course.

This is a chat transcript I had to Ebay.
Thanks for contacting us at Live Chat. My name is Rhea Grace. I hope you're safe in the current situation we are facing right now. How can i help you today?
Hello, basically what I mention about the money back guarantee
Hello Abner. Thanks for stating your concern. The buyer's protection is actually based on the reason of the claim.

So I guess what I'm trying to say here....If the seller does return this item "undamaged" although he falsely claimed its damaged.
Can I argue Buyers remorse since he admitted that to me? Under Ebay Policy
Thanks again.

Job one in a situation like this should be to get your card back. I wouldn't argue or demand anything that might make them actually damage your card to justify their reason to return. By not offering a return policy, that forced the buyer into being dishonest just to be able to return it after changing their mind. There are many good reasons to have a return policy and this is a big one.

Yes I am waiting on the card as we speak. I definitely agree with this statement: By not offering a return policy, that forced the buyer into being dishonest just to be able to return it after changing their mind.
Its unfortunate but thats why posted this on here. To maybe share inside and get an answer.

NO, what your buyer is saying is because it has two dents (no one knows for sure), that the card is not worth that much money. I suggest anytime you sell a card that expensive have it graded. I cannot imagine anyone not graded a card of that value. When you get it back please consider shipping it to BGS or another reliable source and have it slabbed and graded.

I don't have an answer of how to fight this. Ebay might reimburse your shipping costs if you prove it was remorse, but that's not the important part of this return. By offering free returns and/or being TRS with a return policy you get some protections on faulty returns. At this point I would just hope to cut my losses by not doing anything to cause harm to my card, or allowing the buyer to keep the card without returning at all.
