Buyer Behavior

Does this ever happen to you?

A buyer asks you to lower the shipping rate. The buyer is adamant that they don't have a penny over $X to spend. You let the buyer know that shipping rates are determined by the carriers and you have no control over those rates, but that the shipping method offered is the most affordable.

Then they make the purchase anyway.

This happens all the time. Sometimes it goes fine, and other times- a lot of times- the buyer continues the complaints post-sale about shipping costs through feedback, DSRs and messages. I'm not quick to BBL, but I can see why others are. Nobody wants to deal with the hassle.

Do these same people call up Macy's and complain that they want their $10.95 shipping refunded because they only had $20 to spend so they couldn't meet the $25 free shipping minimum? Probably.

You know how the "bell" dings on your phone (or cha-chings or whatever it is).  I think every time you add someone to your BBL, a song snippet of your choice should play.

Easy choice: the Sad Trombone. 😄

I was thinking the one:

Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye!!

I’d like it to play this snippet when I block someone.

Remind them that they agreed to ALL your terms (it's a contract) when they clicked on the buy button and that nothing is negotiable including the shipping prices.

The time to ask is before committing to buying the item, then you can negotiate or not.

Yea… that’ll calm these buyers down. 🙂

Block them and ignore the question.

Re: Buyer Behavior

"Why sure I will take $20 for this $115 item but I will have to charge a handling fee of $95"

Probably the classic is the guy who complained I was a selfish hoarder for wanting about half current retail for a lot of three packages of an older stock item, who didn't understand the postage was high because he was 3000 miles away, but I should just give it to him because he was on SSI living with his parents.  Which, after an email explaining I am a retailer and the profit from the item pays my bills, culminated in threats the guy was going to send me a bomb in the mail.  I asked him how he was going to pay for the parts to make it.

That is the best laugh I've had in days.  Thanks!

It gets better - the $30 was a TYPO....they only offered $20!

Oh, haha.

So did coffee end up using Priority Mail or just regular first class to ship it to the guy?

Yes, and I immediately BBL.

Not worth it.
