Buyer attempted a scam when buying an item I had for sale. They, offered to buy an item now ($600 for an item with a $400 minimum), which I accepted. The buyer then messaged me via eBay asking for an invoice, which is normal, but also asked for (1) my paypal information (which I know isn’t used by eBay), my email address, pictures of the item (I’d posted six of these on eBay already) and requested that I contact them to discuss the condition of the item (which I had already described in detail). An email address was provided.
I did not provide any of the information and contacted the buyer again via eBay (not via email) advising them that I’d ship once payment was received but that I had already provided photos and a detailed description of the condition of the item. The buyer never paid. Beware this buyer!

Report and block the buyer. Wait out 4 days and on the 5th day, go to the order and cancel for non-payment.
You are a new seller and newbies tend to attract scammers. It's good that you were able to recognize it as such.
Note that you aren't allowed to "name and shame."

Update: Usually, these type of scam attempts aren't one offs and the scammers try it on multiple sellers. When reported several times by several sellers, ebay usually takes action as happened in this case. The wannabe buyer isn't on ebay any longer.

You have the typical "text me" scammer. You will not get paid. The closest you will see to any money is the fake payment notification you will get in your email address if you choose to reply. DO NOT DO IT. You can report the buyer now for trying to take the sale off eBay, and they will likely "remove" the member.
It is suggested the "new sellers" NOT use the auction format or best offer feature. List your items as fixed price with immediate payment required and do not entertain offers.
Otherwise you wait until they do, or on day 5 you can cancel the sale for non-payment.

The buyer isn't going to pay you as they are no longer a registered user. Good call. Keep your eyes wide. They're everywhere.
Happy Selling!

Thanks; sound advice; already cancelled and contacted eBay about the buyer. Understand I can't "name and shame", thanks for the tip. I have extensive counter-fraud experience professionally so recognizing this wasn't difficult, but it was disappointing!

Asking for an invoice isn't even normal. I ship around 1000 packages a month and I can't even remember the last time someone asked me that, a few years ago maybe.
