Broken

I haven't sold on eBay in a while. But I have sold many items on eBay. My track record is perfect, never a return. But, my funds are on hold. It seems eBay is now broken. No reason is given for the hold, except that when you're a new seller, they hold your funds. I am not a new seller. I tried talking to customer service, they really didn't have any help to offer. I checked my deposit preferences, bank account and PayPal. I tried setting my bank, again as my deposit preference, instead it set some kind of eBay selling costs as my bank preferences and to five dollars out of my account. There is no way to change it back. My Funds are still on hold, again no reason, eBay is ditched. Erase your account, it's nothing but thievery now. It's sad to erase a 20-year-old account, but things have definitely gone south around here.

Re: Broken

And yet they took 6.14 out of my bank account. No reason, no explanation, just took it. Then they reduced the amount they said they were holding from 40 dollars to 30 dollars. I really don't think this is an organization I want my bank account attached to any longer. They have no idea what they are doing and will not tell anyone what their machinations are.

Re: Broken

No resolution yet, and no explanations. They just keep saying I need to verify my identity, asking for I.D. not providing a way to show those I.D.'s. I'm not even sure I want my I.D.'s spread around on this site. They have my bank account and my PayPal account, they have been playing with both. Putting small amounts in, taking small amounts out.

Re: Broken

Thanks, best answers yet. With this much confusion over whose money is who's, I really don't think it's worth the hassle. I can sell locally on marketplace or Craig's/list without giving up my identity to Manila.

Re: Broken

EBay subcontracts off-hours work to a company which hires workers in the Philippines.
I have several Pinoy relations, my nephews like to marry smart beautiful women, and have a high opinion of the people and of the educational system.

Your banking information and your identity are  in no more danger than with the subcontracted workers and direct employees in Utah.

"Your sales history from years ago is not relevant to today."  It's a good thing that doesn't apply anywhere else, huh. And really it doesn't stand to reason at all. The best way to get rid of your best customers is to ignore them and tell them they don't count or mean anything to your business. Poor business models are only for those who have decided they are too big to care about customers.

Would you say the DMV is a safe place for your information? But the Oregon DMV was hacked and 80% of the Drivers in Oregon lost their security.

I guess it went right past you why eBay is forced to do this. There is too much online fraud at this time, it has nothing to do with 'poor business models' and 'caring' - it's a simple business decision. There is no need to take this personally.

No, Ebay is not broken. You are a new seller since you started over after taking a leave of absence. After a few sales and buyers are happy you will be allowed to get your $$ sooner.

Re: Broken

The Oregon DMV breach was not as bad as it could have been. They didn't get our full SSI number and the rest of what they got is public records anyway.

Re: Broken

Ebay has nothing to do with holding onto your bank accounts,   SSN or ID's.    Your are not giving up your info to anyone in Manila.    All Ebay employees see are the last 4 numbers and a whole bunch of ******.

Ebay payments SSN and bank acounts  are managed by Ayden payments,   which meets all FTC and PPC requirements for safety and trust.     They have never had a security breach.

Every site is required to verify info because of the new banking fraud laws.     These laws were set up to prevent money laundering  through on line sites.       Amazon,  Etsy and Ebay  have been for a long time,  ways that foreign governments get around US sanctions and laws.

You think Ebay is bad,   Amazon is about to throw sellers off their site who can't verify  and lots are in a panic because they jumped through the same hoops.

Re: Broken

@applesave ,

The reason why they do it is increasing incidence of sellers accounts being hijacked by crooks who look specifically for dormant accounts with perfect track records. So it has nothing to do with you personally.

I’ve had my account hijacked twice in 20 years and it was pain in the rear to clean up.

Imagine needing a doctor.  You find one that hasn’t practiced in twenty years.  He has been a barista - but wants to get back into medicine.  He hasn’t changed, so he must be fine, right?  Never mind that the practice of medicine has changed over the past two decades - he was a great doctor

in the early 2000’s, proven by never experiencing one malpractice suit.

With no recent track record for sales and delivery, Ebay prefers that any refunds come out of your pocket, not theirs. Im sure you are familiar with Ebays thirty day MBG? Nothing broken about that.

Re: Broken

Did you sign up with MANAGED PAYMENTS?   Did ebay ask you for a valid ID, your bank account # and social security number.   Get ready to submit it to them. NO ONE here wants to hear that you do not want ebay to have that information.  ALL of us are sellers here and we have given ebay exactly what they asked for.  We sell, we get our funds fast (well most of us.)  Those that barely sell or suddenly sold an expensive item will have a HOLD on their funds.   Ebay does that to protect buyers.  Ebay wants to make sure that the item arrives and the buyer has  it a bit of time before they open a return.  IF they do open a return request, well Ebay still has the funds.  Ebay will NOT have to refund item out of their pocket. Ebay will NOT have to spend $$ hunting down the seller to get reimbursed.

Forget about paypal. You will NEVER see an ebay payment go there again.  LOOK in MY EBAY and look at messages.  Messages here are never blocked by spam in MY EBAY.  So look for a message by ebay requesting the information.  Once you set the bank account up,  ebay will send 2 micro deposits. You will need to confirm the deposits.    Now you are set to get your funds whenever ebay releases it.

A few things to make sure that things go smoothly.  Your name on ID, your Ebay name on the account, your bank acct. name and social security MUST all have the same name.  You can't be Liz Smith on one and Elizabeth Smith on the other one.   There are some banks that don't work with Ebay so be ready to get a new account from a bank that ebay works with.

IF you do not do anything, ebay will eventually release your funds to your home state.  Then you will be cracking your head trying to get back from them Of course , they will ask for ID and social security number.

The holds is a good thing for ebay.  They should have done this from the beginning of online payments. The same for the ID requirement.

Finally,  this ID and social security requirement is now mandatory for every online site in the USA.   The only way you don't have to do this is if you are foreigner seller in Ebay USA.

Paypal will eventually ask  you too for your social security.  They are required to send to the IRS and 1099 if you received 600.oo or more in funds.

Re: Broken

Don't take it personally.   Everyone has to comply with the rules. I sell with 2 other IDS since 1998.  If I turn this ID into a selling account, I will be treated as a brand new seller.     The rules are the same for everyone.
