Could someone provide me with some insight into why a bidder would submit the same bid three times for the same amount? Thanks!

It is not possible to repeatedly bid the same amount. Those bids are showing as the same amount because that member is currently the high bidder. eBay is keeping them just one bid increment above the high bid of the member who is the second-highest bidder. In this example, where there is no other bidder, the bid will stay at the opening bid price of $12.99 until somebody else bids, no matter how many bids are placed by that first bidder.

That is a nibble bidder increasing their bid although you may see the same bid amount right now, if someone else bids the nibble bidders actual bid increments will be shown.

Some bidders feel that if they make lots of bids, usually the minimum difference between them, that the total number of bids shown will put some bidders off.

You have a solid bidder that really wants the item. They just are trying to pay as little as they can, yet still win the listing. After they placed the 1st bid, they had second thoughts they may not have bid high enough to win. Don't worry as its a very good thing. The person wants it badly. Its going to sell.
The bad thing about this and who should worry is the bidder. Its against eBay policy but dishonest sellers who see this will have someone bump them up with a fake bid only designed to raise the price. Years ago this type of dishonest act was quite common. Tons of sellers have been rightfully kicked off eBay thru the years for doing this. Its just not a smart way to bid on auctions. Its always best to just put your best foot forward the 1st bid and let it fall where it does.

If they are the bidder and have the current high bid, them bidding higher amounts those extra times does not change their current high bid after placing the other bids. The system does not allow you to bid against yourself but by placing higher nibble bids, builds a better cushion if someone does bid.

He placed 3 bids 12.99 then a higher bid, then a higher bid than that. Not a very good thing to do cause it is now easy for the seller to make the bidding higher by having someone bid him up.

We don't know the amount of any of his bids. It's showing as $12.99 because nobody has bid against him.

I have increased my proxy bids more often than I should admit to. LOL I need this, then later I really need this, then I.HAVE.GOT.TO.WIN.THIS! LOL (yes I know how I should bid in the first place :))
