Best way to NOT get scammed?

I don’t sell on eBay often , but when I do , it is normally photo equipment with $500 plus  value.
I am getting lots to do f dodgy messages asking me to : pls rush the shipping , ship to my mothers address , I just bought a house and my address changed , etc . I know these are most provably scammer.

what is the best way to protect myself as an eBay seller? Can someone send me a payment and then pretend they never received my package ? Would I have to return the money ?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

What a weird thing to say.

Correct. I have no idea why someone would "intentionally" mislead an OP as the poster suggests. Maybe the person can return and explain the benefit a person would have for doing such a thing.

There are people in this channel who have admitted that they aren't sellers who nevertheless spend a lot of time telling sellers what to do, and add a lot of snark in the process.

You can continue to support that negativity, but the OP needed to be warned.

Spending a little time on these boards it is blatantly obvious that some discussions are not organic in nature.

Since they claim to use fake or posting profiles it is difficult to know if these people are really sellers or are just here to support the buying side. It certainly appears they stay here waiting for inexperienced sellers to stumble in here so they can pile on.

Whether it's more nefarious than that or not is anyone's guess.

It's a sad truth. There are people who try to give genuine help but it's a minority of posts.

I'll go along with that as long as you include yourself and your advice, and I'm not trying to be cute or snarky in saying that.

What I mean is that anyone who asks a question on any public forum must think about and evaluate (and verify, if it's a factual matter) all answers received before accepting and acting on any of them.

Since all prudent and intelligent people do that, and there's little hope for the others, I guess I don't see a reason to start every answer I give with, "Please do not accept my answer until you have... blah, blah, blah."

This community is largely made up of people who have no actual interest in helping. It's mostly snark, sabotage and self promotion. Mistakes/ignorance are another matter entirely. Wasn't even talking about that.

Re: Best way to NOT get scammed?

Thank you all for the great comments and ideas. I really blame eBay for not doing anything to stop scammers.

This guy and address has been linked to scams for many years , yet ebay allows these clowns to keep operating.

I don't think you can post that here, so you might want to edit it.

Google bad buyer boards if you want to post it somewhere.

But yeah, don't send to that address.

There is a lot of great advice on here...I'm just gonna add a few more things I have learned along the way.  If you have a store you can go to "Buyer Management" and block bidders with low feedback from buying your item.  I've attached a picture.  You can set it for people with say, 20 feedback or better can buy your item.  I've found that people with 20+ 99 times out of 100 are good buyers and know what they're doing and won't scam you.

Now, if you can't do that, when someone purchases your item and say they have a "0" feedback or a low feedback, or haven't made a purchase in a year or something, I will reach out to the buyer via DM and make sure that their account hasn't been compromised (which has happened to me before).

Also take a lot of pictures including serial numbers and such and include them in the listing.  This will also deter scammers.

Hope this helps...

You can’t block buyers with less than 20 feedback, or even with zero feedback, from buying an item from you.. That setting you circled is a refinement of the option above it, which allows you to prevent buyers from purchasing MORE THAN ONE of your items. But it doesn’t prevent them from buying the first one.

And the Buyer Management tools are available to everyone, not just store subscribers.

0 Feedback means almost nothing anyway. I've had no more problems with those than any average account. There were guest accounts for a while.

The ones you want to watch out for are the New Castle accounts that were opened two weeks ago and already have 19 positive feedbacks from people selling iPhones.

Re: Best way to NOT get scammed?

Sellers have to understand that eBay favors the buyers and wants to keep them happy.   You can’t have a sale without a buyer.  Sellers have to take all due diligence to protect themselves, and don’t expect much help from eBay.   I had a buyer renege on a guitar and found it was impossible to give them a negative review.  Ever notice how every buyer is 4 stars with no bad reviews?
PS - I ended up selling that guitar for more $ in a later auction.  Thanks, eBay!

@bugsy989

This thread is over 17 months old and I doubt the OP is going to reply since they haven't sold anything in a while.  Best to start your own thread with your chosen topic.
