Basic vs Starter Store

Hello fellow eBayers...

I have been selling without a store and am interested in setting up a store. I am wondering what the differences are between the Basic and Starter stores as do not want to sign up for the Starter store and find out it does not do what I am interested in doing.   so which benefits are available on a Starter store?  I would like to be able to list until it sells, not have item number change every week (I run auctions), be able to contact watchers, have sales, have more views, have a store name, etc.  I do not want to lose current following, so I was planning to open a separate store rather than convert to a store... and wonder if I can do that easily... have posted the info from their page... they reference not all benefits are available with a Starter store, but cannot find anything about which ones are available with a Starter store... not very helpful... appreciate your insights... thank you so much... have a great day...smile...

Re: Basic vs Starter Store

My sincere thanks for tagging me on this thread @mam98031 .

And @vintagetreasure86  I can certainly help you with the trains you are selling and when to use Auctions and when to use Buy it now formats.  We can certainly do it here in the open forum or you are more than welcome to private message me ... your choice, I'm good either way.

I looked over your items, you have some nice train items for sale.   I can also give you some suggestions on when to open a store and what size store that might work for your mix of products and the number of listings you have.

Re: Basic vs Starter Store

Sorry for the delay with  getting back with all of you... I do auctions, which end Sunday evening, so yesterday was getting new items ready to put in... very honestly, still working on it this morning...smile...

There were some really good comments... am thinking to start with the cheapest one... sounds like pretty much the same...

I did start a new listing just to see about the auction and buy now... when I click on buy now, there is no drop down to add fixed listing... also interesting that when I get to end of month (last month), since auction items are weekly, eBay started charging me 35 cents to make changes to some listings and for new ones...

I am thankful for all of the comments as they all help...smile... I will reach out to Mr L and thank you mam...smile...

Have a great day...smile...

Re: Basic vs Starter Store

Hi Mr L...

Thank you so much...smile... I would be really appreciative of your suggestions, especially since you are in the same industry...smile...

As mentioned in main thread, I do not seem to have an option for fixed at all... only auction... my brother and I talked (my dad's collection) and he does not want to lose followers we have picked up... we have around 100... and understand if I convert to a store, we would lose them; so thinking I will open a new store and put items in it at fixed price... run a few auctions there too... however will continue to run first auction on our vintagetreasure86 one...

I greatly appreciate any insight you can offer... is there a reason a different store than the starter? (cheapest) would be  better... have heard online (listening to youtube eBay videos) that people are able to offer sales on items... and that appeals to me... also do do fixed listings until they end; although am hearing people end and then relist similar to help with views...

So whatever insight you can offer is much appreciated... what do you do on your store...which one and why? and how do you get more views?  really appreciative of whatever you can share...

I may have other questions as well... these are what I can  think of right now...smile... and you are welcome to message me also... some may not be interested in train talk...smile... I never knew I was a foamer until I started selling my dad's collection...smile...

We also have Erector sets... about a hundred I think... any insight on them??

Have a great day...smile...

When you click on "buy it now" rather than"auction" that will create a fixed price listing.  You will only be able to add a buy it now price with no bidding.

Re: Basic vs Starter Store

Just FYI, you do not lose your followers. Nothing changes when you get a store. I too was worried about the same stuff you were but honestly, it was seamless.

Re: Basic vs Starter Store

Fixed price listings no longer end. The only way they end is if the item sells, or if you as the seller ends the listing.

After each 30 day period, they automatically renew. If you have used up your allotment of free listings, you will be charged a listing fee each time it relists. If you have not used all your free listings, the listings will relist for free.

True that is something you'd have to keep an eye on if you run your listings that tight to your free insertion fees.  However you have tools to help you.  You have a box in the Seller Hub [Promotions] that gives you up to the minute counts on your various insertion fee details.

For sellers that sell in some of the categories that offers the additional 10,000 free listings, that can certainly help.

Sellers can use the additional allocation of fixed price listings in the following select categories if you have a Basic store or higher:

  • Sports Mem, Cards & Fan Shop > Sports Trading Cards
  • Toys & Hobbies > Collectible Card Games
  • Collectibles
  • Music
  • Books & Magazines
  • Movies & TV
  • Video Games & Consoles > Video Games
  • Stamps
  • Crafts
  • Home & Garden > Greeting Cards & Party Supply > Party Supplies

I'm glad you are happy, but it is a waste of your money if you aren't going to run over about 375 listings every month, on a regular basis.
