Bad returns

I am getting really tired of people abusing the return system. I had 2 returns recently, one a pair of shorts and the other a pair of shoes. The buyer of the shorts sent me an entirely different pair, full of dog hair (Ebay is standing behind me so far). The other, the pair of shoes, came back to me much dirtier and with much more creasing to the leather uppers (and soiling of the interiors). If I call Ebay in regards to the shoes, they will probably think I am a complainer, since this would be 2 in a row. To relist the shoes I will have to take all new pictures, as they are significantly more worn and dirty. Frustrating!

Here is the before and after pictures of the area beneath the insoles (don't know how they got that area dirty)20220802_160559.jpg20220909_222219.jpg

I'm also going through a "bad return".

When you say "ebay is standing behind you so far" on one return,

what does that mean exactly?

They told me to go to my Ebay Hub page and report buyer. From what I understand, so far it appears as though they will not require me to refund the buyer. However, I will wait a bit longer until this case is fully closed to pass judgement. I will keep this forum updated.

The collar/shoe counter on that worn pair doesn't look too happy, either.  He really did a job on those.

JFYI they will sometimes tell you that, then when the deadline comes, they refund the buyer with your funds.

I hope that doesn't happen to you.

You have another thread started regarding the shoes that were used.

You should keep both threads updated regarding the shoes that were used and possibly not even the shoes you sent them.

If Ebay is willing to call this one in your favor, they should be willing to close the case in your favor.  Why are they saying you have to wait?  If they close the case in the buyer's favor you will end up fully refunding them and likely paying the FVFs too.  And get a defect on your Dashboard.

Before and After of the Shoe return I just did.  Ebay Sided with the Buyer.  Had to refund everything.  He left me a big fat neg too and Ebay wouldn't remove.

Yea, funny cause I got one the other day of a very dark red/maroon vintage sweater that I sold almost a month ago and they are saying that it's "red on the listing" but "purple in person". Which I can kinda see where they are coming from but I did say in the listing that it's a really dark red but it doesn't matter. I don't really get to tuned up about returns anymore. Ever since I started doing more volume & they don't hold my money for returns anymore, I started not to get as mad. When they were holding the funds after the return opened then I'd really get PO'd. Unfortunately it's just part of selling online, my return rate is almost under 1% anyway so a return here or their isn't a big deal.

@gpasattic

You need to appeal this.  You can since you say Ebay sided with the buyer and forced the refund.  I would not however do it on the site, I would contact customer service to do it.  The most effective way to do that is either on Ebay for business on Facebook or Twitter.  And there you can give them the pics too.

If you do appeal it, please come back and update us on how it turns out for you.

Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service.

If when you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant, type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options.

It is very hard sometimes when it comes to color.  The seller can't control what kind of device the buyer has to view the listing on or how old it is.  The clarity on devices vary wildly.  So what is dark red on your device may be purple on mine.  This IMHO is completely different than the situation the OP has.

Ohh I know, I take all of my photos with a gray backround so the color is as true as possible when looking on the phone since a large percentage of buyers purchase thru the app. I've had returns like OP's as well and it's extremely aggravating when the person not only destroyed the item but is blatantly lieing about it. That is one of the main reasons I got out of the electronics category because of the amount of fraud and false returns, people taking parts out and sending the item back, send a whole different unit back etc...
