I know this has been mentioned many times in THE PAST !!! BUT this IS NOW and IT'S TIME SOMETHING BE DONE ABOUT IT !!! We SELLERS RELY on THIS FEEDBACK and WE are NOT GETTING IT !!! BUYER RATINGS are ALMOST ALWAYS at 100% !! Well I BELIEVE EVERY TIME a PURCHASE is MADE and NO FEEDBACK is LEFT by THE BUYER that 100% SHOULD GO DOWN !!! JUST LIKE a SELLERS RATING CAN FALL so SHOULD a BUYERS !! EBAY NEEDS to BUG THE BUYERS to LEAVE FEEDBACK !!! NOT JUST DO NOTHING ABOUT IT !!! SERIOUSLY , 20% , 30% , 40% FEEDBACK is PATHETIC !!! And IS NOT in REALITY a FAIR PRACTICE to BASE ANY BUSINESS ON !!! IF WE SELLERS GET JUST ( 1 ) NEGATIVE FEEDBACK IT STAYS on OUR SELLER RATING for OVER a YEAR !!! ( LOL ) AGAIN , THIS is NOT a FAIR PRACTICE for ANY BUSINESS and TOTALLY BOGUS !! IMAGINE IF WE COULD LEAVE FEEDBACK for EBAYS OVERALL PERFORMANCE ( LOL ) !! DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE BUYER FEEDBACK !! IT IS NOT a CREDIBLE PERFORMANCE RATING BUT YET SO MUCH IS PLACED ON IT !!! LIKE PEOPLE'S LIVELIHOOD !!! WAKE UP and CHANGE THIS ( MALPRACTICE ) !!!

As a buyer I usually always leave feedback for most ALL Sellers. My laptop is having an issue right now and I tried to find out how to leave feedback on the mobile version of eBay and couldn't find the FB area to leave Feedback! That might be part of the problem. ( or maybe I am just a dummy!)
I also have a Fire Phone from Amazon. The new update won't update on the fire phone! That also might be the problem. ??
I also Agree with the comment why deny good Buyers FB became you can' t leave anything but positive feedback for a Buyer? It has been that way since I started eBay. I personally leave FB when a Buyer Pays. and I have shipped.
I like leaving "New Sellers" FB. I have left thousands of FB and only left 1 negative Feedback. It was well deserved. The Seller said they didn't have the product and tried to cancel the order through PayPal.
They did order the same item through another Seller with an Auction, for lower than I paid them. I showed them the Auction. They should have sent it to me as a gift but they had it sent to them and reshipped it to me. That took time. They sent me a FB revision BEFORE they even resent the item, and it timed out before I received the item. If I would have had time to inspect the item, I would have revised that 1 negative I left. (Seller jumped the gun. ) Sugar

Have been selling on eBay since January 2010 and we have received FB on 65.3% of the 1518 items we have shipped - from what i have read on these boards that is above average. Along the way we have received a few red hickeys (less than 3) & one neutral. Primarily we sell preowned clothing, handbags, footwear and other odds and ends. We have never solicited FB from buyers. But what we do do is as follows:
1. We always leave FB for the buyer at the time we print the shipping label.
2. Ship promptly - we have a 1 day handling time and we ship (get the purchase in the hand of USPS within one day and often within hours. Our carrier picks them up.
3. We ship stuff on Saturdays even when we get late Fri or early Sat payment, we could, by eBay rules wait an ship on Mondays. But mail does move over the weekend and the buyer gets it sooner. Buyer appreciate fast delivery after all they have already paid for the item.
4. We do our best to describe our items accurately, clearly and pictures and words. We use concise bullet point descriptions and provide key dimensions. We avoid using lots of sales/marketing puffery wording - just give the buyer facts. Puffery is like popcorn - lots of air very little substance. I was in a sales/marketing carreer for 41 years
5. We do not have a no return policy - we never will and have very few returns. having a no return policy might suggest the seller maybe less that ethical IMO. I know if I am not happy with a purchase i expect to get a refund on my purchase whether it be an on line purchase or a aB & M...
6. When it comes to describing the condition of our used stuff - we tend to understate the condition - e.g. If an item is actually in excellent condition we describe as being very nice condition. Buyers like that
7. Just a couple suggestions for you:
a. Ditch the use of all caps - too hard to read, some people think this is shouting or yelling
b. Ditch the use of parenthesises use commas or back slashes for word, phrase separations - very difficult to read and doesn't look too professional.
d. Remember preception is every thing
e. Feel free to look at our listing to see where I am coming from
This is all "free" advise meant to help you reveive more FB and most importantly more sales, you can accept some or none of this and throw it the trash can - your privilege & it won't hurt my feeling (only have one). Yeah I wrote alot this AM but I have had two big cups of coffee and I'm jumped up
CIAO!

Not quite sure why you feel a neg was well deserved (or why you thought you should get the item for free just because it was late arriving).

No one relys on something nearly meaningless.
If you are...you really need to re-think your business model

@myjunqueyourtreasure, as I read it, I don't think @imakesugar thought that the item should have been sent for free.
By "as a gift" I think they meant that the seller should have had the item sent directly to the buyer (to a gift address), but instead the seller had the item sent to himself, and reshipped it to the buyer. This caused a delay, which meant that the feedback revision timed out before the buyer received the item.
It sounds like the arbitrage seller cancelled the transaction, which is understandably annoying and frustrating. I think its too bad that more can't be done when arbitrage sellers cancel a deal. Also apparently, the seller did not attempt to remedy the situation by finding another source until after a negative was left. That sounds understandable to me.

Well sir if it so meaningless then why does it even exist ??? I have no need to rethink my business mode 😎 I sell on ebay for FUN not BUSINESS !! And I have no problem selling my merchandise !! I take many of my items DOWN so they don't SELL 😁 Not many people would or even could do that SIR !! Feedback is a option for both BUYER and SELLER !! BUT just ( 1 ) negative feedback will lower your 100% down for a YEAR 😎 Regardless if you have 100 , 1,000 or 100,000 POSITIVE FEEDBACKS !!! No more 100% for a year and that will be posted next to every item you list !! It's a BOGUS SYSTEM and CAN HURT a SELLER SIR !!!

I can understand the seller wanting the item shipped to them first, because you can't trust your seller will ship it the way you would and you can inspect it. But given the iriginal seller was drop shipping anyway you wouldn't think that would be a concern, and they obviously know how to add an address (their buyer).
I'm actuallysurprised the seller bothered to source another and send it given they already received a neg for the transaction.

Why do humans have an appendix?
Ebay has, over the last decade, slowly reduced the importance and effectiveness of feedback as a tool designed to evaluate buyers and sellers. The update that removed the tie to account status has made feedback all but anachronistic.

It still allows buyers to avoid bad sellers up front. Nobody wants to have to use the MBG if they can prevent the issues.

Sometimes, yes. But you have to know what to look for and how to read it.

1. You are right a negative FB or a neutral FB or a postive FB will be with you for one rolling year. But one red hickey is not the end of the world.
2. Currently your FB rating ain't all that bad @99.6% with one in the last 12 months. Wish I had that type grade all the way thru 12 years of school, 4 years of college & 2 years working on my masters - nope just a B & C student with a few As along the way and a few less Dingos - no Fs
3. When you click on that red hickey the buyer's comment is not consistent with a negative FB. They wrote "Great Seller!" HMMMMMM! The buyer may be playing with you or simply clicked the wrong button - I do that often on my keyboard. Great speller but terrible at typing & proofreading. You can ask the buyer to revise the FB to a positive seems like they might - as long as you don't send the request in all caps w/ paraentesis scattered all around. Simply state that the neg might have an effect on your future sales - don't come across as desperate. Try it and see what type of salesperson you are. If that fails contact eBay customer service & see if they "mite" help - a mite is a very small insect.

If you are aiming to become a politician, then receiving feedback is for you. I used to, until a few minutes ago, to care about feedback. But after reading some comments, I realized that feedback is a thing of an emotional reward for yourself. Of course, some negative feedback are from delusional, mad, or dishonest buyers, and you can't stop that no matter what.
How many of us got that message about grandma dying, the kids in school losing their favorite crayons, please lower your prices, I got only $130 but your item costs $200, yada, yada, yada. You go the extra mile, and when messaging the buyer to find out if their kids jumped so high when receiving the crayons, you get crickets. Not even a positive feedback after 59 days. You have been played. But you got their money no matter what.

The biggest and best tell of a bad seller is how they respond t bad feedback.
