Are we going out of business eBay???

What's going on with you?  Is your IT department out to shut us down??  Not only am I a seller and full time business owner here on eBay I'm also a shareholder.  I'm going to keep this short and sweet.

You're killing my business.  I've been selling full time for over a decade and never have seen it so bad, even in 2008-09.

You need to stop whatever you're doing that is causing this downturn.

We need your help.  PLEASE STOP!

If you kill our business now where will we be a year from now?  How many people will shut down their stores?  You won't get "promoted listing fees" if people pull the plug.  We won't stand for higher and higher expenses with lower and lower sales numbers.  Not going to happen.

Stop.

Re: Are we going out of business eBay???

They tried that already, it was called EBay Express.

Everything you listed had to be new in the package. It just didn’t take wings.

I could see that happening now with more success. All the Chinese stuff would be in the new stuff and us old junk sellers could be set apart.

Of coarse China would sell new as old so it wouldn’t make much difference China wise.

Re: Are we going out of business eBay???

I don’t sleep at night.

I go to bed from 4 am to 6 am. I have friends that are the same way. I’m retired so I don’t have to be up early to do anything. I used to work from 9pm to 6 am. I did that for 8 years and can’t get back on the clock.

If I have something to do in the morning I just don’t go to bed.

I shop in the wee hours. I know a lot of people like me. I can message someone at 3 am and they message me right back.

When you don’t have kids living with you anymore it just doesn’t matter except when grandkids come and spend a week with you. I get tired really tired.

Dear God, please help me to be

Come on it's clear what's going on.. eBay wants to emulate the business model of their big daddy Amazon. Frankly they act like they're ashamed of (resale product) which happens to be bread and butter. Simply put they want to move their chips into big business and turn their back on small business.

Since eBay thinks this direction is best for them, it would be awsome for them to make 2 sites - a "classic" eBay that does re-sell with all of it's perks in tact...shipping discounts on multiple purchases (if the seller wants to do that), no "sponsored listings," no search manipulation etc... and another - the new eBay version with all of it's "new ways."

It would be interesting to see which site would generate more business for them.

Hah!

A big thank you to @trustedbasset for bringing this up!  I had no idea they already tried this.

I just can't make this stuff up... What is that definition of insanity?  Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? laughingSmiley Very HappySmiley LOL

Although I do agree with you that this time around, it could work given all the China sellers. Smiley Happy

Re: Are we going out of business eBay???

It is possible you may be going out of business.  I can guarantee you that Ebay is not going out of business. For every item you do not sell another sellers sells it instead.

Re: Are we going out of business eBay???

The other strange thing I've noticed. WHY if I carry $500,000 in inventory on ebay is it possible to have 2 $500 days in a row but not 2 $1000 days EVER? Why is a $1000 day so rare? And when I do have one its because I sell 1 high ticket item with the regular batch of items.

If eBay isn't manipulating the market and only allowing my listings to be visible to a certain price point why would the above be a thing? In a natural world your sales should be very random numbers. It's not natural to only reach a certain number. Why is it that over the weekend I sell about the same amount of items?

eBay. Please stop throttling my business. I need to grow. I have mouths to feed and bills to pay. I have warehouses full of inventory I have yet to list. I work hard for a one man operation. There is no reason why my sales should be governed.

...IDK...

I am a buyer and many of the recent changes in eBay are annoying to us buyers as well.  @greg5000 has even stopped buying on eBay b/c he's so annoyed with it all.  My purchasing has slowed as well...and there are other buyers who have posted similar remarks.

If the chance of your promoted listing being seen in search is 5 out of say 200 and it's now removed from organic, how is that the best experience for the buyer?  Buyers want to see all their options, not manipulated results as determined by an Ebay algorithm (influenced by a promotion charge).

As a frequent buyer here for many years I looked at "Promoted Listings" as a gimmick, where higher priced items floated.

I would get annoyed ... skip over the listing ... repeat ...

"Make eBay Great Again" ... End Promoted Listings rainbow

Ditto...and these statements are coming from BUYERS - NOT SELLERS

@greg5000and myself are Buyers and we do not agree with the direction that eBay is going in regards to sellers...

Sometimes I wonder if their servers are not able to handle the volume of items for sale on this site at any given time.  How many hundred's of millions of items are up for sale on eBay at any given second...???  Is this why eBay seems to cycle between listings?

I will search out items and X amount shows up, do the same search again an hour later and others show up and they have been listed for days...why didn't those show up the first time?

I hate to be negative on eBay...I really do love eBay...I just don't understand the lack of logic on some of their changes as of late.  Smiley Indifferent

Well, yes, but respectfully speaking, if ebay took over as a world-wide money changer/bank, what would they need with sellers?

Sometimes I just can't help a flight of fancy, or two.

The first thing people need when deciding on who will handle their money (or "bank") is some level of trust. eBay has done nothing but erode the trust of it's users, both sellers and buyers. Why would ANYONE in their right mind decide to let eBay be their bank?

(Got the red banner while typing this, and had to sign back in. Funny how that happens while you're typing something negative about eBay.)

True. More and more, it's a seller on another venue. eBay's horn is getting clogged, no matter how much anyone tries to toot it.

Re: Are we going out of business eBay???

I am selling on both of these and my sales are more than eBay. It seems that the new buyers are buying from these two sites. Yesterday, after being a seller on eBay since 2009 was told that my sales were below standards. Recently between the water heater breaking in the basement that ruined some books, and then I had ecoli from some Hamburg I ate that put me behind in behind being a good eBay seller. eBay doesn't seem to care. I won't be listing new items soon.

If they told me that, I'd tell them that THEIR sales have fallen below MY standards.

Good 'Til Cancelled.  Ebay's BIN no longer has an expiration date.  It will automatically re-list unless you cancel the listing.

Re: Are we going out of business eBay???

I don’t think eBay problems are due to millennials not buying. I think it’s largely because of boomers stopping. Three reasons.

much of the best stuff in my vintage collectibles category is gone, into collections or dumpsters. I rarely see high demand items coming up for sale here any more.

many of us had parents who died young. Parents who scrimped and/or bought frugally, saving for a retirement they would never get to enjoy. I’d rather have a trip to Florida than a Hummel I have to dust.

third, many of us have had the burden of dealing with estates. It is sad and overwhelming and many times the kids have no understanding of value or don’t have time and those collectibles go into the dumpster and are lost forever
