(Kind of like trying to call the IRS right now ... Hello? Hello? Anyone there?)
Remember my $$$$ return due to damage? I've been ignoring it because the buyer has not shipped back to me for refund. Return opened on 12-7; suppose to have been shipped by 12-14.
Today I get a friendly ebay message that the return has been closed because there is no record of buyer shipping the item back to me.
Aha, I think. Buyer called ebay. Buyer also messaged me several times today, saying she had not received her refund. (Don't know what came first; messaging me or calling ebay.) I of course replied that I have not received the widget; she said she had sent it.
I asked her if she used the label provided by ebay, even though I knew she hadn't because I hadn't been charged for it. Or, I also asked, if she used another method did she have a tracking number? She replied that she didn't have a printer* and had used regular mail and the package (very very large and heavy) should be here the week after Christmas. Ummmm, huh ?
Mailing label for return was issued on 12-7; how long would it be usable? Or are the labels not dated?
Then I get another message that she told ebay the method she used to ship and ebay had reopened her return. And she asks if I had filed claim with UPS on original damage because ebay "needs to know item was damaged." Ummmm, huh ? Is that ebay pretending she's going to get a refund or another one of her inventions? Ebay doesn't care if I get reimbursed for damage.
Anyway, if ebay had done a courtesy "reopening" for her, would I ever know it? The return is still showing closed and gone in my records. I'm fairly sure ebay isn't going to courtesy refund the $$$$. Ebay didn't ever put a hold on the money in my paypal account, either.
I will be shocked if she voluntarily went to USPS and paid $125+ to ship that widget back. It would be cheaper to buy a printer.
Another weird event: A while back I got a delivery confirmation from UPS and the package wasn't signed for. She picked it up at a UPS location because UPS had tried to deliver and couldn't. Wouldn't someone have to sign at pickup? I certainly paid for that.
Anyway, I've been getting holiday ready all day - and all day tomorrow - and the hordes arrive on Monday and I am not anxious to speak to anyone at ebay in the next 3-4 days. I'm safe ignoring this a while longer? The worst thing that happens is she really did ship something (today) (next week) and I get it back and I resell it, less whatever else is broken.
The box we used to ship was double walled and cost $22; can't believe she coughed up for that, either.
* Don't get me started on how many of the "standard" excuse lines she's given, up to and including her back surgery in the hospital which delayed payment.

Yes, if it was reopened or opened as a new case you would see it in the resolution center.

Yes, the recipient would have to sign for it. Is this the same buyer or a different one? You can call UPS and ask them to check their records. Maybe there was a glitch and the system didn't update, but if they say the package was never picked up you should find out where it is and if it's being returned

And you can also go to a local library, use the internet for free and pay a quarter to print a page (shipping label). It's surprising decisions buyers make sometimes. I sold a widget to a buyer- $50 item, $30 ship. Buyer got it and wasn't happy with the size- opened remorse return and sent it back. They got a $50 refund, but spent $60 total shipping both ways.
Even so, the rest of your story makes it seem unlikely this buyer shipped anything back.

She picked up the package; she just didn't sign for it. She wasn't home during UPS's delivery attempt so I'm wondering how she got that at a UPS location without signing for an insured, signature required item. These pickup details were all provided to me by UPS, not by her.
The whole thing would be much more entertaining - all of her, um, statements - if it wasn't a $$$$ widget.

In that case I would file a complaint with UPS because they can't forego a signature service that you paid for.
As long as you don't see anything pending on the original claim or in the resolution center or in paypal then I don't think there's anything to do at this point.
