I received a message via ebay and it seemed a bit suspicious...
Here is a copy and paste below of the part i am on about
Try an Ebay Store For FREE
" QUOTE
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
By invitation only
What is the Promotion?
Invited sellers (“Sellers”) who accept the offer and then sign up for a Monthly or Yearly eBay Store subscription, pursuant to the terms and conditions set forth herein, will receive a waived subscription fee (the “Promotional Rate”) for the first 2 months of the subscription start date (collectively referred to as “Promotion”).
*Source: eBay Q3 2017 Internal Data. 15% lift reflects conversion when moving from no returns to 30-day free returns. Individual results may vary. eBay does not guarantee that each seller will experience the same lift. Free returns: seller pays return shipping no matter the reason for return, with no restocking fee. UNQUOTE
So does that mean a buyer can purchase any item from a seller and if they already had a smashed up similar item that is not working, then the buyer is allowed to return that smashed up item to get a full refund and keep the good working item that the seller shipped to them????
Can someone inform me on how ebay can control the exact item is going to be returned??
I think that seems a bit unfair to all sellers and very one sided to the buyers.
Thank You

Yes. A rock or empty box as a return will suffice as well. The seller has to pay return shipping for same.
The same holds true for just about any ebay sale, and has nothing to do with a store subscription.

The marketing promotion should be "Try an eBay Store FREE for the first 2 months of the subscription start date and never-ending returns."
I don't think it would be as successful though.

Just like you say , i dont think it will work no matter what ever ebay offers offers...
The store simply wont work, the buyers will return similar damaged items like i have experienced and once a seller has experienced this, it is hard to forget it.....
I actually got a package returned and negative feedback a number of years ago as a stamp on the outside of the package was not in a perfect straight line and the cancellation or postmark that the post office worker did ( NOT ME ) was not legible. Please note i was not in the USA then, i was in Australia... The ebay there ( ebay.au ) is a completely different kettle of fish to ebay USA
These few people have damaged it and it is a shame. I now purposely scan the package before it gets shipped and send it to the buyer via ebay messages. It is only so ebay has on file what was sent and they see the adress
on the package is the same as in the account.
A little warning here, if a buyer wants you to send a package to a different adress as not stated in their account,,,DONT DO IT.
That is grounds for you to receive a negative as you were helping out the buyer by shipping to a 3rd party and saving them money in shipping but the buyer themselves never received it.
You will be in the wrong where ebay is concerned as it did not go to the exact adress in their account .
All this is simply due to experience and i dont want you to have it as well.
Scanning the packages is a bit of extra work but i dont mind doing it to save me from getting a negative just for the fun of it like some buyers like to do.... I also keep those pictures in a file labelled PACKAGES SHIPPED and in sub folders i have months ( eg FEB 2018 ).... Once feedback is left for you, then you can delete pictures as you no longer need it on file to possibly send to ebay if needed.
I may be a bit overcautios but it is better than leaving to memory.
OIO

Scanning packages and keeping pictures will not help you if a buyer wants to scam. Also, deleting or keeping pictures after feedback is received means nothing, a buyer can leave positive feedback and request a return days later.

That just doesn't sound right to me..............it's not really clear requiring the return thing to get the free store.......rather it looks like the usual disclaimer that while doing x may mean x savings, it's not necessarily true....

that just doesn't look like it belongs in the free store offer.

Hi @oz_in_ohio, the example you have shared of another damaged item being returned instead of the item that was sent would be an example of fraud. When we state that a seller pays for the return no matter the reason for the return we are clarifying that the seller would pay for returns in both situations of remorse and in situations where the item did not match the description. Offering Free Returns just means that the seller offers free returns for their buyers for remorse reasons in addition to the free returns they would be entitled to for items that do not match the description. If you have any additional questions or concerns, I encourage you to review the link related to offering returns, located in the email you received immediately above the Terms and Conditions you've quoted here.

Hi @oz_in_ohio, I just wanted to clarify that we do offer protection for a sellers who ship to any address the buyer provides on eBay. This could be the address in the order details or one provided in member to member messaging. We can review this information and are able to cover the seller in the event of an item not received request being opened on eBay.

Hi @dhbookds, the promotional pricing for trying out a store subscription is unrelated to the portion of this email encouraging sellers to try out free returns. The Terms & Conditions outline the promotion and what is required to participate and I would recommend any seller who received this offer review these details if they have questions or concerns.

Yes, Trinton, the person did express an example of fraud - to which you did not respond or answer, but merely pointed out. Yes, it is fraud, but ..... ?
You didn't mention that - as in the past - ebay can not and will not protect from that type of fraud -faulty return because ebay doesn't know what was sent OR what was returned. Therefore, ebay will error on the side of the buyer, and has suggested that it is just a part of doing business, I believe. Or, have ebay procedures changed?
