I’m getting ready to mail some expensive Valentino shoes, signature required with USPS. I’ve recently had 2 items shipped that way where the delivery person waived the signature due to Covid…just writes “COVID” on the signature line. Is there a way to actually get a signature?

maybe if u use a different shipping company
usps does not allow signatures from the actual recipient during the pandemic
the carrier signs for them

I've also had, besides USPS signature required,Covid deliveries, a couple with FedEx too.

FedEx and UPS too.
I don't think there is way to demand a actual signature from the recipient.

You should contact the US Postal Service's Inspector General and inform them this is happening. Additionally, for Certified Mail, maybe you should purchase it at your Post Office directly, but you would have to pay for the ultra-surcharged retail rates. Otherwise, FedEx or UPS are much better at signatures. This "Covid" psychiatric nonsense in most cases are not the delivery person, but the actual recipient hypnotized to make these dumb claims to not touch the stylus; instead, providing an ID at the door----shouldn't happen at all either way. Good Luck..

my understanding is you can select to either have the carrier sign for it that they delivered the package or get the recipient / buyer to sign. I assume if the buyer is not home, then they will need to go to the post office to pick up.
The USPS clerk an clarify and walk you through on selecting the right button on screen.

We use fedex and check the box for adult signature required. But we use our own fedex account. Have not had a signature collection issue with fedex - only USPS, who is still not having folks sign.

even if USPS waives signature as covid - the item is still considered delivered and received by recipient. USPS is still bound to honor any insurance on package, especially if signature was required and the mail man (or women) waived to have recipient sign for it...it by the way isn't a USPS policy, it is choice of the mail delivery worker. I have had several discussions with my mail man and down at the post office at the counter about this they have all said it's choice of the person delivering mail but they are still bound to honor any insurance if something happens. In fact their policy is that if package needs signature and the mail delivery worker is suppose to leave a notice for person to go to the post office to sign and pick it up.

Send them USPS Registered Mail Restricted Delivery. The item can only be delivered to the registered recipient after showing photo id. You can insure for a very high amount if you desire. It is best to contact your customer ahead of shipment so they are aware they will need to sign and prevent identification. The cost is reasonable for expensive items.

Hi Kath!
I've been wondering about this too, and been meaning to ask my USPS clerk (next time I have a sale).
I suspect the answer is to send the item and pay extra for registered mail ($12.60?) - not ideal, but on expensive items, perhaps worth the peace of mind.
