Another stellar experience with returns, no money and no item back

So, I sold a small tablet and buyer received it with no issues.

I shipped it Priority Flat Rate

Few days later they opened a returned, said they didn't want it any more.

Return was approved automatically, and eBay provided a return label.

I thought nothing of it, and was just going to relist it when it was returned.

Return never made it back to me, USPS sent it back to sender as the weight was over the 1st class label Ebay provided. I told the buyer to ship it to me at their expense.

They did not, escalated to costumer service, and got a quick refund before I could even call Ebay

I'm out the money,  the item and shipping fees for 2 shipments.

The so called 'seller protections' are imaginary.

Or, considered a no fault for the buyer or the seller as with one of the other posters situation.

brian@ebay Was this handled correctly by CS?  The label was clearly a return label and it appears that USPS incorrectly handled the return.

Well if that was the case then it looks like this case should have been looked into a bit more closely before if was closed. Not just accepted as a problem with the seller not indicating the weight of the item in their listing.

Sounds like there needs to be an engineering ticket, although it does sound like entering a weight might be a workaround.

Re: Another stellar experience with returns, no money and no item back

Ebay is the shipper of record and has a record of the original shipping cost/mailing choice (PR, 1st Class, etc.) which should be duplicated on a return label.  This is ebay's problem and the OP paid for it.  Since they are the shipper of record, they need to work this out with USPS, their shipping partner.

I would try to re-open the case or appeal again.

Re: Another stellar experience with returns, no money and no item back

Every single return I have received that used an Ebay generated label has used a first class return service label no matter the weight or type of package/box.

Re: Another stellar experience with returns, no money and no item back

AFAIK the only difference between First Class Returns and Priority Returns is the speed at which they're delivered.

The USPS was at fault in the OP's case but I semi blame the USPS for calling it a First Class or Priority return in the first place. There's bound to be confusion with the rates/criteria for original outbound FCP and PM parcels.
Reality is the leading cause of stress.

Hi @hubsnyc , based on the information you've provided in this thread, I am not able to overturn this decision. You told the buyer, "to ship it to me at their expense." Sellers are responsible for return shipping costs when a buyer opens a Not As Described return. While definitely frustrating, if the package is returned to the buyer because the shipping carrier makes a mistake or the return shipping is insufficient then the seller would need to rearrange and pay for return shipping for the buyer.

In regard to the problem with the return label, the return flow will use an eBay label for domestic returns by default. While the experience you've described in this thread is definitely uncommon, you do have the option of providing buyers a return label yourself if you find the default return shipping method and/or carrier isn't meeting your needs. If a seller prefers to use another shipping method or shipping carrier, they can set up the RMA feature in their returns settings

Hi brian@ebay, is the USPS First-Class Return Service label issued by eBay good for up to 70 pounds, and valid on Priority Mail boxes and envelopes?

This was not a SNAD return but a 'Changed mind' return and a label WAS provided, and USPS returned the item back to the sender. I told the buyer to send it at their expense the 2ND TIME they were shipping it back...I just found out USPS returned it because the label was a 1st class RETURN label but the box was a Priority Mail box, that is what my local PO told me but I didn't get a straight answer if this was a mistake or not or their part or that is the policy.

Looking at @innovatilife's tracking number on USPS.com it does say USPS First Class Return Service. I looked it up and the service is only good to 1lb. Still not sure why USPS didn't just upcharge for priority mail at the destination, though.

Those are not my tracking numbers, its another seller providing an example of what happened in their case.

If a seller offers free returns, return shipping and any problems with that delivery is on the seller, even for remorse returns, @hubsnyc. On eBay, whoever is responsible for the shipping cost, whether buyer or seller, is responsible for that shipment.

Hi @hubsnyc, the information @fa_8305 provided is correct. The person responsible for return shipping costs is ultimately responsible to ensure it is delivered back to the seller.

Re: Another stellar experience with returns, no money and no item back

Where does he say he offers free remorse returns? I must have missed it.

Also all my returns always have a first class return service label on them no matter the weight and packaging of the return. I did search USPS and the only mention of first class return service says it has a weight limit of 1lb. I always assumed Ebay has some type of special deal with USPS to ignore that rule. Is that true?

The last line at the bottom ^^ of the eBay-issued USPS First-Class Package Return Service label page states 70 pounds.

Re: Another stellar experience with returns, no money and no item back

I never get that part of the label as I don't return items. But that appears to be ebays own information or writing. I'm not saying it's wrong.

If you looks here is says 1lb max for first class return service
