My daughter purchased a pretty mid century modern piece of cased art glass for me here and had it shipped to my address.  It arrived yesterday in perfect condition.  The seller must have been in a hurry to ship it and did not check the piece before packaging.  On the bottom was a large $2.99 price sticker from Goodwill.   (This is the second time an eBay purchase had a cheap price sticker left on the item).

Had to laugh since eBay sellers are known to haunt certain resale stores.

Won't disclose what my daughter paid for it.  Rest assured the seller did receive positive feedback.

I love the piece and added it to my collection.  I have over 200 pieces of art glass, some huge, some small, cobalt, deep red, greens, very bright sun yellow, bright orange, a virtual feast of color.  I change my room accents every six months throughout my whole house so I can enjoy them all.  Thank the gods for Swiffer Dusters   Smiley Happy

Well you know what they say '' something is only worth what someone is willing to pay .''  It sounds like you're happy with the item  so its a good deal  in my book . It sounds like you have a lovely collection too . 🙂  tulips

Kudos to you for seeing the humor instead of spoiling your & daughter's enjoyment of a nice gift by dwelling on the seller's profit margin

Yep, I am always afraid I'll do that with an item.  It's good you understand.  Too many buyers wouldn't.  They don't even think how much time, wear to my car, gas, etc. may have gone into finding this treasure at a price where a profit is possible.  The buyer doesn't want to do this work, but they of course want the cheap price and delivered to their door.

Yes, ebay sellers are known to haunt certain resale stores.

I'm mindful to remove price stickers on items bought from any resale stores I go to. Glad you're happy with the item.

For all you know it was purchased years ago. It's like vintage items that have original store stickers from the era it was produced. Doesn't mean the seller paid that little. I've sold items with those orig stickers of 1.99 or so. I paid alot more than that for the item.

ummm, from the OP:

"On the bottom was a large $2.99 price sticker from Goodwill."

If it were an original store sticker I don't think this thread would have happened. Smiley Wink

That said...I frequently have books and booklets with the original price on the cover. I've never had anyone (yet!)  ask why I'm selling a 25 cent book for $8-$10. I'm guessing they're smart enough to realize that prices in 1949 aren't the same as today's prices lol

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

My point was you don't know when the seller purchased it at Goodwill. They may have been hanging onto it for years and now it's appreciated in value. I read their post.

So a seller recognized the value of an item and took steps to rescue it, and offer it to someone who might love and cherish it? Kudos to that seller!

The Goodwill store in my area (Yeah YOU, Goodwill in Salisbury, MD) writes their prices on all items with a permanent magic marker. Needless to say, I pretty much buy NOTHING from them except glassware and some plastic skin pack items that I can easily remove the marker with alcohol.

I’ve passed up some quite collectible & desirable items absolutely RUINED due to their pricing policy.

I actually contacted and spoke with the manager about it. He said it was a theft deterrent and that was pretty much the end of the conversation. Some people can’t (or won’t) see the forest for the trees.

Your post made me recall some purchases I made years ago at various GW and SA thrifts, my favorite shopping spots.  I used to collect Cabbage Patch dolls.  Remember their soft, stuffed bodies?  Every single place that I shopped would put the price on the back of the neck with what was evidently permanent Magic Marker.  Or on the butt.  Today I don't buy them, still have some of the original collection of hundreds.  I buy 18" dolls to dress for my own enjoyment and guess where their prices are in Magic Marker -- back of neck or bottom of feet, which is not too bad, but actually rejected one with the $3.99 written in Magic Marker on the palm of her hand.

People who do that have absolutely NO respect for the items they are selling, or the buyers they are selling to.

To that we can add the places (often Goodwill) which tape lids to bases etc with packing tape which rips off any cold paint when you try to remove it. Soaking doesn't work as that also removes the paint along with the tape.

When I first started buying and selling, I had a somewhat rare Pyrex atomic starburst design carafe completely ruined by that tape. Pulled the tape and the starburst came right off with it. I took it back, not to return it, but to point out to the thrift store the amount of damage they are doing to their items. They are still doing it to this day ... rare vintage board games cardboard boxes in near mint condition are routinely taped up (destroyed) “to prevent the contents from spilling out”.

I no longer even look at items that are all taped up.
