I'm looking for a Peloton cycle.

The name Peloton is pretty unique so I typed in peloton under all categories.  I figured I'd get all of the peloton cycle, peloton bike, shoes etc.

Try it and watch the AI magic (I'm using Chrome.)

I remember when Ebay first came into being that you could get great deals on changing the spelling to find the auctions that were spelt wrongly so there were less bidders. With the new search, you can't even find the items you want even when you spell correctly. I searched for a Singer sewing machine and I got every sewing machine BUT Singer the first time I searched.

The problem is you don't know what you're searching for, so ebay is just giving you a helping hand. Be thankful. I was once searching for ebay shipping supplies and they changed it to Feebay shipping supplies.

How can you say that? He was searching for Peloton CYCLE. That's pretty dang specific. I seach for Royal Doulton Honesty Pattern China all the time (very rare) and you would not believe the stuff that comes up. I have learned how to modify the search.

Why on earth would eBay or any site expect buyers to LEARN how to search? Unless they are diehards like me..most will just bail, and go elsewhere. I have been here long enough that I see it as a challenge...most won't.

You make a good point. Ive tried getting hubby to buy here because some of his car stuff is cheaper than elsewhere. He cant take the time to learn how to search. Its too much work. After car stuff switched to catelog, he tried again. Not only was it hard to find theThing, it was confusing and difficult to dlfigure out wht you wwre actually buying from any given catelog entry since the descriptions were so badly done. I found his part, long after he bought it elsewhere. The search had eliminated the actual part he wanted the first few rounds. Soooo annoying.

Then why didn't he put in peloton cycle in search in the beginning? Both peliton cycle and peliton bile were shown in related right under the search bar - click either - browse - back click and click the other one. I know it's a couple of steps - but they did show his search - only they grouped them under a more precise term in related instead  of a general term.

If I search for a band t-shirt - some could be listed in emn's t-shirts - others in vintage, others still in music colletibles - by using the related link - I see all the items at once from all categories. So actually it does have it's good side.

Yes search frequently does that among a lot of other wacked things but the other thing to consider is not everyone gets the same results as you or sees the same results as you...also because of the AI technology making it in part a "personalized experience".

Some responders also keep forgetting about this part of searches when looking for OP's now when they can see things and others cannot or cannot see things others can. 😉

Not true. When you click "all" categories we all see all the stuff. It may be in a different order when using best match but Ebay is not hiding your stuff.

OP needs to be more specific when searching is all. It is like that on almost all sites on the internet. If the OP wants a bike type bike, if the OP wants a cycle type cycle, if the OP wants shoes type shoes. No matter what the results under the initial heading it always gives you more options including other spellings. On the left of the screen it has excellent ways of even narrowing it down farther. Most buyers figure it out real quick, some take longer, and very few bail as the OP suggests.

I am fairly sure all of here know how to use search but
Please provide the stats of how many buyers figure it out, how many take longer and how many bail. I would love to see those numbers because as of now I do not think any of that info is public knowledge or that ebay has given anyone those numbers at all and I am guessing you do not know those numbers let alone have info on every buyer that searches here. Best I can tell it is an unsupported statement and a guess at best.
But I would love it if you actually had those numbers to share. I am guessing the others would as well.
You are also ignoring the AI technology which plays a role beyond what is just typed into a search.

Lets also not forget ebay may or may not show you all the listings...which they also tell you. So you in a lot of cases have no idea if you are seeing everything available or not.
And BTW ebay has also explained the AI technology and its role in searches now. And it is not just based on what you type in a search or which filters you use and hasn't been for some time now....years.
You can google all that and I am sure it is archived on ebay somewhere as well.

Search works as intended. It gives you in "best match" the items you regularly look for first. After that a buyer can change the default. Ebay is not hiding your stuff. Buyers don't bail just because of best match. Buyers see your stuff, if they are willing to pay the price they will buy it. There is nothing to worry about unless you are asking more than buyers are wiling to pay for your stuff. If that is the case buyers will pass you up even though they saw your stuff.

I typed in Peloton cycle and got 7 hits.

3 for the entire cycle,

4 for their replacement monitor screen.

Search does not work as intended..it is flawed.
Ebay even clearly tells you it will hide listings...so that is "a fact" and cannot be denied.
You haveand are also ignoring everything ebay has told us about AI technology and it's role in searches and how it works. How it works is also fact and cannot be denied.

Buyers have even on occassion come to the boards to complain and say they are going elsewhere due to the search. So right there is proof buyers will and leave because of the search now. There are complaints all over the internet as well which cannot be ignored.

No one said anything about Best Match alone. You are changing that ..moving that goal post. We are all talking about searches in general, best match is included though.

You have not yet provided the stats you have to come up with how you can speak for the actions of all buyers on ebay and who left and why, to state none have left because of the search issue....you also cannot say buyers have lied when they have come out and said they are leaving and why.
