Another prime example of why sales are so bad.

I'm looking for a Peloton cycle.

The name Peloton is pretty unique so I typed in peloton under all categories.  I figured I'd get all of the peloton cycle, peloton bike, shoes etc.

Try it and watch the AI magic (I'm using Chrome.)

I got 860 results...
What's the problem?

Re: Another prime example of why sales are so bad.

In my case it changed the word 'peloton' to 'pelton' with 3001 unrelated results.

I did the search from 'my ebay.'

Yes search frequently does that among a lot of other wacked things but the other thing to consider is not everyone gets the same results as you or sees the same results as you...also because of the AI technology making it in part a "personalized experience".

Some responders also keep forgetting about this part of searches when looking for OP's now when they can see things and others cannot or cannot see things others can. 😉

Well I search for fitness reated items often, maybe that's why I got it on the first try.

Back when this all first started with the AI I did a number of searches with an ebay supervisor. We both did it at the same time, same words and both got completely different results and different numbers of items included. And if we did the same search more than once, every time it was different for both of us.

Re: Another prime example of why sales are so bad.

So with AI, it's not satisfied with giving  you 860 items when you enclose the word in quotes. It things it's smarter so it gives you various spelling of the word as well?

Artificial Intelligence, if it did work, would only show you 860 items. All AI is, it's people creating a program. People are flawed = AI is flawed....lol.

My goodness.

I searched on the eBay app and was shown the same 'Pelton' results.  Tried again with the word in quotes "Peloton" and that worked.

Problem is.. not many eBay customers know about or how to use search operators. To them, zero results means that  there's none of that item for sale on eBay so they leave and search for it elsewhere.

Re: Another prime example of why sales are so bad.

It did change peloton to pelton for me - but I also had peloton cycle, bikes, glass ect right underneath that I could click on and the results were pretty much split 50/50 between peloton and pelton.

I don't like this AI search and never had bu have learned to work with it both as a buyer and a seller. I do searches on Bing and google and come up with some funky results considering what my actual search was. They all want to mind read and produce results on previous searches you've done.

On a bright note had two great sales today - at least to me - invested $2 - sold for $40, invested $5 - sold for $75 - so despite all the bugs - it still works for me.

And as a buyer - have a nice phone call after a pruchase yesterday as they had run out of the color of the item I had bought. It was actually a purchase for my dog - who I don't think cares if they get pink or red - but instead of substituting - they wanted to call as they wanted to get it shipped out yesterday. I was impressed at their customer service and will be using them again. The item had skyrocketed on the river and I was thrilled to find it here. So this weekend - Ebay positives: 3, Negatives: 0

Why click the word if the searches they recommend (and apparently what you want) are right in front of you?  By not using those, you are rejecting them, so the search engine searches for something other than those things.............that's the reason you get the odd results.........

Re: Another prime example of why sales are so bad.

Because if buyers click on peloton 'cycle' they will miss every peloton 'bike' and every other peloton listing that doesn't have 'cycle' in the title including ones spelled 'cycel' which some sellers have been known to do.  And all of those sellers will miss a potential sale.

When I type in peloton in all categories, I expect to see peloton in all categories. Not some derivative that ebay's AI thinks I want which in this case is dead wrong.  Simple as that.
