OK.. So Ebay is ramming good till cancelled listings down our throats. No one seems to like the change...and here is what I see happening...
The listings, apparently, are never-ending (as long as there is money to take from the seller). So just imagine what's going to happen, beginning next month, when some casual seller lists some items, they don't sell, and the listings automatically renew the next month. Sure, the seller's gonna get charged for the relist, and he ain't gonna be happy about it when he returns in 3 months to find out he's been charged.
BUT HERE IS WHERE THE FUN BEGINS. How many items are going to be floating around on ebay, appearing to be for sale, when the reality is they're just GTC items mindlessly relisted by a casual ebay seller who has completely forgotten about the listing? And the item is probably disposed of, or sold, in some other manner outside of ebay. This is totally going to happen. There are going to be buyers that 3 months after an item is listed, hit that "buy it now" button and they're going to get nothing. The seller will tell them that he forgot to cancel the item, and that he no longer has it. And they will get nothing.
This scenario will happen and it's going to **bleep** a lot of people off. And it's going to make Ebay look even more rinky dink than it already is.
Like I said, get your popcorn ready!!!

I am wondering the same thing! I re-evaluate my unsold listings each month. If they keep rolling each and every month and I have a limit of 1000 listings, can I stop them at any point without my account being "hit" with a penalty. Also, I will continue to have more items to sell and that will put me over my monthly allotment of 1000 listings, thus paying more fees. Not happy about this! Especially since this was just put on us without any notice!

I agree that eBay is ramming this change with "Good Until Cancelled" fixed price down our throats. I have a store, and I don't want to pay for "automatic re-lists" I want to view each re-list when it expires because I might want to donate the item to Goodwill since nobody bought it. Now I'm not sure how I'll handle the change. I guess I'll limit my monthly fixed price listings to 50. And when eBay offers a free "Fixed Price" listing promotion, I'll just ignore it. What a crock. eBay is making the change to help us sellers to sell out items. ARE YOU KIDDING! Does ETSY have the same policy? Should I rely on Craigslist? What next? Will eBay automatically re-list our auctions???? That would really help us to sell our items. Sellers need to unite, and if ebay doesn't change the policy, cancel our stores!!!

Every seller was notified. Some do not choose to read the things available/sent to them.
Seller updates.

You can still do that by looking at your active listings sorted by ending soonest. Decide whether you want to end them before they rollover or let them continue on.

Yes and Ebay is also coming out with an enhancement to the active listing page, hopefully soon. They are adding a column that will tell you how many days are left on the listings. Do you will have a column for the actual date and a column telling you the number of days too.

Ummmm, there's already a column on Active Listings that tells you how many days are left.

@mam98031 wrote:It is incorrect to say GTC can be canceled at anytime.
No it is not. GTC can be cancelled / closed anytime the seller may choose to do so for any reason the seller may have.
If a seller has 85 listings ready to renew GTC and no "free" listings left.
Yes, the 85 can be canceled.
As long as the seller can spend 2 hours to cancel each one.
No, you can do this in bulk within the Seller Hub or My Ebay with just a few clicks. It probably wouldn't even take 60 seconds in all.
As people who have a life, scheduling 2 hours on the 29th day is not "any time".
One of the biggest perks on ebay is the ability to have a flexible schedule.
Or was This takes that away.
Then you must be happy to learn that you don't have to do this. If you need further instruction on exactly how to do this, just ask. But let us know if you are using the Seller Hub or My Ebay.
If we want to stick with a schedule someone assigns us, maybe we should go get a "real" job & have guaranteed income, probably more in an hour than we are making now.
Boy I find this really insulting. I do have a REAL JOB. I am an Ebay seller. My job puts food on the table and clothes on the kids, along with other things. Just like any other J O B that may be outside the home. I work no less hard than anyone else.
You responded to this posting but on a different thread.

I never mean to offend.
I come here for info.
I don't mean to debate.
Inherent in Discussion threads are debate. Whether you intend it or not. Pretty normal stuff here. You offered your point of view and I offered mine.
There are lots of fantastic hard working people that sell on this site as their full time job. There are lots of fantastic hard working people that come here and sell more casually. And there are lots of great sellers that fall somewhere in between.

Yes, I'm confident you are right. Starting on the 18th & 19th. But that should not be blamed on Ebay. Sellers have the responsibility to keep up on the rule changes and emails were sent to every seller. Unfortunately some sellers ignore those emails and then scream when they get affected by something in the email they choose to ignore.

Sure. But Ebay knows that's not reality which is precisely the reason they changed to this GTC goofiness to begin with. Find as much quarters as they can under the cushions.
That doesn't make it Ebay's fault. We are all suppose to be adults here. We can all make our own choices. And we should all take responsibility for what we choose to do. It is a choice.
It is unrealistic to expect Ebay not to implement any change until they have acknowledgement from every seller that they read any specific email or information on the subject.
I'm not saying the policy change is a good one. I'm ONLY saying it isn't Ebay's fault if a seller CHOOSES not to stay informed when Ebay sends out an email or emails on the subject. This of course doesn't account for unannounced changes as Ebay sometimes does that and it catches even the most informed sellers off guard. But that is completely separate from this issue.

Before this became site-wide, eBay had already forced GTC and auto-relists on casual sellers using the app and I think the quick tool, as well. Putting GTC into effect for all sellers shouldn't change much in the way you're describing because it was already happening with casual sellers- eBay determined the numbers were acceptable. Any non-casual seller should be more on top of their inventory than the casual Joe you're describing.
