OK.. So Ebay is ramming good till cancelled listings down our throats. No one seems to like the change...and here is what I see happening...
The listings, apparently, are never-ending (as long as there is money to take from the seller). So just imagine what's going to happen, beginning next month, when some casual seller lists some items, they don't sell, and the listings automatically renew the next month. Sure, the seller's gonna get charged for the relist, and he ain't gonna be happy about it when he returns in 3 months to find out he's been charged.
BUT HERE IS WHERE THE FUN BEGINS. How many items are going to be floating around on ebay, appearing to be for sale, when the reality is they're just GTC items mindlessly relisted by a casual ebay seller who has completely forgotten about the listing? And the item is probably disposed of, or sold, in some other manner outside of ebay. This is totally going to happen. There are going to be buyers that 3 months after an item is listed, hit that "buy it now" button and they're going to get nothing. The seller will tell them that he forgot to cancel the item, and that he no longer has it. And they will get nothing.
This scenario will happen and it's going to **bleep** a lot of people off. And it's going to make Ebay look even more rinky dink than it already is.
Like I said, get your popcorn ready!!!

An example:
Kenny has never used Ebay before. Kenny signs up for Ebay just to sell his cool ten speed bicycle. That's all he wants to do. Kenny lists the bicycle as a fixed price listing. Kenny don't sell the bike for a month. Kenny gets an offer for the bike from a neighbor and sells the bike to him. Kenny has no further use for Ebay and doesn't think he'll ever sell on Ebay again. Kenny doesn't bother to cancel the listing. Why should he? He's not even getting charged for the automatic renew, because it's just coming out of his 50 free listings allotment. So the listing continues. 3 months later, Sammy sees the bike listed on Ebay and hits "buy it now". Sammy pays Kenny. Maybe Kenny notices he's been paid. Maybe he doesn't. But in any event, Kenny doesn't have the bike anymore. Sammy is **bleep** and has to open a case. And Sammy never shops Ebay again because, well, why in the world would he if this was his experience?
No doubt this scenario didn't come up when the latte drinking, skinny jean wearing geniuses at Ebay put their heads together and came up with this terrible idea.

I really want Ebay to tell us exactly what the penalties will be for cancelling our listings on the 29th day so we can rotate others in. Ebay is being very quiet about this. I do know what the current policy about cancellations is but apparently this will probably change too without any notification to sellers.

Maybe Kenny needs to exercise some personal responsibility and read how to use the site he's listing on.

Well, we all know there are a lot of Kenny's selling on Ebay. But Kenny ain't the one that gets hurt. It's the buyer and Ebay's reputation. I tell ya, at this point, I'm rooting for Kenny!

You can cancel the listings whenever you want to.
I've been using GTC for years and end listings all the time and never had any problems.

There isn't one.
GTCs are new to Ebay. Like many other sellers, I have used them for years. You can close them for any reason you may have at any time you feel you need to. There is NO penalty. Anyone that has told you that is unaware of the facts surrounding GTCs.
Don't confuse the Policy on Cancellations as extending to GTC listings. I'm not even sure it even mentions them. It is more suited for Auction listings.

So while you may have other issues with GTCs, this worry you can take off your list.
Good Luck.

McZombies:
This is a really good point that I hadn't even thought of....I bet you are 100% correct--I can totally see this happening. Although we all know how much eBay cares about the buyer's shopping experience--so I just can't imagine that the Adderall rotted Millenial brains up at HQ didn't think of this possibility. Unless they were too busy counting all the bonus money eBay will scoop up from unsuspecting customers....either that, or they were too busy booking their houses in the Hamptons for the Summer.
Even worse though--Kenny gets a case opened against him, and maybe he notices, maybe he doesn't--he most likely doesn't notice, gets a case closed without seller resolution, and gets kicked off eBay as a seller. He comes back to look for Christmas presents a few months later, and is mortified to find out that eBay has revoked his selling privileges--ANOTHER buyer gone, and more sales lost.

If anything, they've got it mis-named. Should be called "30-day Auto Relist".

Yup. I’m actually pretty **bleep** some of my existing 30 days that ended tonight were auto re listed and became GTC. Plus I got the 200 listings promo. This is what I call playing dirty. If this is the way they wanna play, I’m just gonna end all of my listings tomorrow and wait till April 2nd and put up 50. Moving the rest of my listings elsewhere. Plus is it not stupid that they auto renew on 30 days but there are several months with 31 days. Chasing revenue by nickel and diming your customers is a path of failure.
