eBay, you need to stop treating your most loyal long-term sellers with such blatant disrespect. ALL ITEMS SHOULD BE LISTED WITH THE SAME VIEWABILITY.
If items must be "promoted" by forcing sellers to give up what little profit margin they may have left in this runaway inflationary economy, you will soon have no sellers left except your favored fraudsters, cheats, scammers, drop shippers, etc.

You are obviously unaware of the gold and valuable purchasing that certain members of the Ebay leadership teams got caught doing not too long ago. Thy system was manipulated in order to facilitate this. Not saying it's happening now, just saying that people are people...

That makes no sense. Nobody just types in "Painting". They use search perimeters, whether typed in as words or by left side boxes. The fact is that now, no matter what one puts into the search bars, ebay may, and does, choose to show them what they want them to buy. This is giving preferential service to the SELLER, not helping the buyer, and to a degree, is also price fixing. Next time you are searching for something, go to "Best Match" and compare it to "Lowest price" and see if the best match has more items. If it does, then which "Lowest Price" offers are being ghosted.
I'm just as concerned about this from the buying perspective as the selling. I find it very difficult to find what I want now, mostly comic books, due to the search perimeters being wiped and/or changed every few pages. I'm also tired of constantly having "International" turned back on after I turned it off. Why are they doing that? Because higher shipping costs, means higher FVF.
Last thing I'll say on Promoted Listings is that it's hard enough getting someone to get onto my listings, ebay then providing them a scrolling window of similar items by OTHER SELLERS, is just reprehensible behavior IMO, a real stab in the back. If you can't see how this is just a way to control "Click Through" rate, to manipulate the algo that will choose whether or not your items even get scene, then you are just blind. Simply blind.
IMO, everything about the promoted listings manipulation is the worst of technocracy, and the system will be used to refine what, how, and for what price things are sold on ebay as determined by corporate CEO's who rub elbows with the like, who mainly want to sell new goods, and control the profit made off of used, vintage or antique items.
This is market control, akin to price fixing, it is only the beginning, and it will get worse IMO. But who knows, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it'll get better.

In the categories I deal with, they are one in the same. Comic book sellers, are comic book buyers.

What bottom or top perimeters are you using? I've never once searched for anything using "Best Match". I doubt anyone but a noob does. If that's all that promoted listings was affecting, I wouldn't care, but I don't think it is. I don't know though.
Most people search by price, new or used, shipping cost etc. Now tell me, is it right for me, as a BUYER, to be mislead from finding those exact perimeter results because someone pays ebay to ghost the competition. BTW, I'm not saying that's happening right now, I don't think it is, but if this continues, it may.

You don't understand what ebay use to be. It's not Amazon, it's a place for those who hustle used goods, and those people also BUY used goods. I have always, for twenty years now, not always with this account, bought and sold. Ebay isn't like amazon, it has always been friendly to small sellers/buyers like me. I fear that is changing. BTW, I stopped buying from Amazon when they basically made it impossible to sell there.

I don't agree that the results were ever random, if one learned how to use the left side search perimeters, or "advanced" searches.

If you run a dating service and put the camera on two prospects then the person chooses between them. If you put the camera on only one, then the other is denied choice.
Is it really that hard for you to understand that preference, is denial as well? Increase this, you decrease that. Simple logic.

Of course, knowing this, does not necessarily make it preferable. Saying "Well, those are the rules" is not necessarily improving them.

" it has always been friendly to small sellers/buyers like me."
Ive been buying and selling here for twenty three years, and I dont ever remember Ebay being 'friendly' to sellers..buyers? Yes, absolutely.

Very good point. I don't think it's an all or nothing conversation, in or out. I think this is more about how we are moving forward and best practices. Though, there is really nothing any of us can do to change ebay's direction, they will decide what they do with, or without our agreement.
As far as why sell here, it's the biggest and best at this time, I think most of us would like it to stay that way. However, monopoly's do have their demise.
A famous Roman, I can never remember who, once said that the definition of "corruption" is when things don't change. I don't think ebay is corrupt, I just think the marketplace is changing.

That's a silly question, sorry, it just is. It's like saying, well, if you don't like the interest rate, why are you using dollars. Things have to be done, just because one disagrees with the momentary leadership or rules, doesn't mean that they are moving to Canada.

Those are good points. However, you do understand how cookies work, right? Are they showing up for everyone in that order? NO, no they are not.

Thank you for reminding folks of that. Heated can often lead to dangerous. I think what people have to remember is that business is a constant up and down, things change, the leadership doesn't always make the perfect decisions, and sometimes the customer doesn't either. I don't like promoted listings, but I see it as something I can comment on, while working within the system provided.
However, as a buyer, I find it super frustrating to deal with, and have begun looking at other platforms for my comic book collecting. I hate to say that, but it's true. I love ebay, have been here for a long time, and I hope to stay, but I'm not at all pleased with the way the searches are manipulated at the time.
03-24-2023 11:44 AM
What? I don't think that's true. They keep the .30 cent transaction fee, but I don't think that they keep the promoted fee. If so.......
03-24-2023 11:47 AM
Thank you for your very logical and reasonable conclusion. It's an added fee with no ceiling IMO. If someone, either through choice, or mistake, pays really high Promotion fees, I assume that they get really high results, but I could be wrong.
I've heard that whether the fee you choose is 2% or 20%, you supposedly get the same results. I don't understand how that could be so.
