Aggressive Buyer

Had someone make an offer on one of my items in which I accepted, however she hasn't paid for the item yet and is asking for me to alter my shipping price in which we agreed on. I refused to change our agreement and was completely respectful about it and she threatened me saying it was illegal to make a profit on shipping and completely manipulated all my messages to fit her narrative. She was incredibly rude from the start and insulted my shipping price even though she submitted an offer, and now expects me to cancel the order for her just so she can leave me retaliatory feedback. I'm a brand new seller, but this is a nightmare. I already submitted a report about her but Ebay hasn't responded. What am I suppose to do? I don't feel safe selling to this person at all if we did end up going through with this...

Re: Aggressive Buyer

@khristi_54  Block the buyer:  Blocked buyer list.

Cancel the sale - I would use "problem with address" as you are willing to ship it to them but cannot because they refuse to pay for the shipping.

Don't engage with them any longer - no explanatory emails, no telling them they're blocked, nothing.

Re: Aggressive Buyer

If I end up cancelling though, she could still leave me retaliatory feedback right? even without paying for it?

Re: Aggressive Buyer

If they are still looking for additional discount on the shipping, then I would just cancel the offer. Buyer never paid or buyer changed shipping terms are legitimate reasons to cancel an offer. Don't worry about the feedback. If they have been rude or threatening or have been trying to use feedback to manipulate the transaction, then all you have to do is tell ebay about it, they will check your messages, & then remove any feedback due to transaction feedback manipulation. Next time you get an offer for your items, make it clear to the buyer what you're accepting......price of the discounted item + the stated shipping cost + any sales tax. Sometimes when the buyer tosses an offer they mean the grand total.

Good luck!

Re: Aggressive Buyer

In regard to feedback. eBay claims they don't really know when a buyer pays (which I don't quite understand), so, yes, the buyer could leave feedback.

In theory, however, you "should" be able to get the feedback removed if you have reported the buyer and can prove the buyer has asked for something not offered in the listing; e.g., a shipping discount on an offer.

If she has submitted a request to cancel, I would just go ahead and do that. If you don't, there's a good chance you will not be able to cancel based on nonpayment.

Here are a few eBay help pages to take a look at. Make sure you expand wherever a "+" sign appears.

Seller performance and feedback policy

Abusive buyer policy

Just get this mess over with and deal with the fallout if it comes.

Stop all communication with this person and remember to add her member id to your Blocked Buyer List.

Good luck!

The eBay offer popup form makes it very clear that the offer feature includes only the price of the item and does not include the shipping cost.

Re: Aggressive Buyer

I could ask her politely if she would prefer to cancel the sale since (and this is true) eBay does not allow us to change the shipping price we advertise.

But since this is likely to lead to an NAD dispute, I'd cancel as Problem With Address, since I don't wanna mail to her entitled badonkadonk.

Why would the OP use "problem with address?" Wouldn't the OP just cancel using "buyer requested?"

From the OP's first post:

" . . . now expects me to cancel the order for her . . . "

Re: Aggressive Buyer

@pburn  You are right - I went back and double checked - I got hung up on the shipping problem.  Since the buyer demanded the cancellation, the OP can definitely cancel the order with 'buyer request'.  I wouldn't have even thought twice about canceling it and would have been relieved and not even worried about it, which is why I missed the easy solution.

The buyer can leave FB for the canceled order (it happened to me with a neut) but it should be easily removable.  My neut was so funny that I didn't bother.

Re: Aggressive Buyer

OK now I am curious what the funny feedback was. I don't see it in your feedback's.

Re: Aggressive Buyer

and completely manipulated all my messages to fit her narrative.

You should have been sending exactly the same message over and over. "My shipping costs are stated in the listing. If you would like to cancel, I will be happy to do so."

and now expects me to cancel the order for her just so she can leave me retaliatory feedback.

Did she actually say that about retaliatory feedback, or is this your conjecture?

That aside ...

I have been on this board for a long time, and I cannot count the number of times a seller has posted here about a nightmare scenario and wished they had the chance to go back in time and just cancel the order.

If she expects you to cancel, why not do so?

Re: Aggressive Buyer

Why wouldn't the OP want to let the case go to an "item not paid" after 4 days, & let it close that way? The seller has already tried to accommodate the buyer, why continue to do so? Especially if the buyer is a nutter. That way the buyer would get the dreaded & feared "unpaid item strike" . That could benefit other sellers that might come across this buyer.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.

Re: Aggressive Buyer

Wait it out.  If the buyer doesn’t pay open a case. If they pay then you have a decision to make as to cancel or not. Block
