Why does Ebay allow users to input invalid addresses over 40 characters......and then, when said user buys an item, tells sellers that the address is invalid, and if you edit the address you lose seller protections.
Ebay...don't let users input invalid addresses in the first place. This happens with Puerto Rico ALL the time. This is an EBay problem, you need to fix this..not me...YOU need to fix it.

Why do they allow 40 characters? You got any ideas?

This thread is about a buyer's address that is 40 characters or so long. Too long for the Ebay label system all on one line.
Many of us have shared with the OP @rabites-n-chocobos that the fix is easy. Just split up the address onto the two lines available for the street address. Make no changes, just put part of it on the second line so that it can be used in the Label system.
While the OP came here to find an answer, they had their mind made up so they simply argue with every point anyone else says and they proceed to tell us that we are wrong. Also that splitting the address between two lines is in fact changing the address so we lose our Seller Protection.
Try as we might, we can't seem to get the OP to understand, so I'm reaching out to you as you can likely explain it better for them so they can accept we are not trying to lead them down a road that would hurt their account.

Good morning @rabites-n-chocobos. In scenarios such as this, you are able to place half of the address on the line below, and you will not lose seller protections, as that second line is intended for this. If you alter the address itself by changing numbers, names etc. then you would lose those protections. Hope this helps!

Thanks for letting the @rabites-n-chocobos know how it works.

Thank you so much elizabeth@ebay , I hope this finally helps the OP.

No further improvenents are on the way...this has been going on for years and years.
Yes, there is a work around, but a multi-billion dollar company can get their -----straigt, should worry you.
In the mean time, this issue rarely pops up, so I would use the work around and move on.
I don't share the unfettered optimism as some of these long time posters.

They're not relying on others to fix the problems...It's Ebay relying on sellers and users to either fix the problem or find a work around.
That may be okay at Tony's Garage, but on Ebay, with hundreds of millions of transactions, it's not.

@cardxcraft For future reference, not just on Ebay, but any time there is a second line use it. No need for improvements. Even if they did only have one line the P.O. would not accept it. Maybe go to the postal site and complain there that they should allow 40 characters on a label.

Yup, we just fix it (use the work around), and move on
Be it an easy "coding" action to correct, or not .................. does not concern me.
As another suggests.................. rejecting a buyer's address (over 40 characters) thus rejecting the sale seems like ..... ............. not the thing to do.
Needing a "work around" does not bother me.
I've just passed my 22nd full year of selling on eBay, and am not irritated by the occasional need to make a little adjustment in an address by either abbreviating a word, or splitting to use a second line.
I have done this with domestic as well as international addresses, and never (knock on wood) have I lost my "seller protection" for doing so. I have been "warned" many times that I "may", but I never have. I will maintain my unfettered optimism, although it won't be for another 22 years 😉

Why does EBAY warn you when you that you'r seller protections will be invalidated, if you split the address onto the second line? Again, why does Ebay allow people to input invalid addresses?

Why is this allowed? I'm a coder for 20 years. Why? This is an easy fix. What am I missing?

@richard1rst Hmmm. Do you think EBay is aware of this? Does EBAY Have developers and programmers? This is like little Code Ninja **bleep**. It's soo basic.

"Your protection is unaffected" Can you guarantee that to me? Scammers are smarter than you think.

Does Ebay tell sellers this information when we go to print a shipping label?
If no........then why not? Why are you telling this to me? Can EBAY programmers not figure this out? Do you hire dumb programmers?
