Why does Ebay allow users to input invalid addresses over 40 characters......and then, when said user buys an item, tells sellers that the address is invalid, and if you edit the address you lose seller protections.
Ebay...don't let users input invalid addresses in the first place. This happens with Puerto Rico ALL the time. This is an EBay problem, you need to fix this..not me...YOU need to fix it.

"if you alter the address you lose seller protection"
Creating a space or break in an address is changing the address. Ebay itself tell you that if you change the address you will lose seller protections.
What you don't want to see is that no one has suggested your "change" the address. No matter what we say, this is what you want to believe, so it is what you believe. No amount of discussion is going to change that. For whatever reason you have you are entrenched in your belief.
So you option is to simply cancel the transaction with the reason being problem with the address. So you can lose the sale if you choose to handle it this way. That is up to you completely. Simply ignore what seasoned sellers have tried to explain to you and your response is to the rude and confrontational.
When you start a thread here, if you don't want to hear others takes on a situation or how a certain policy works, just say so. Just say you are venting and no one needs to try and answer your concern because if it differs from your belief you will not accept it.
Your path is simple. Do what is best for you. Give up the sale by cancelling it and move on.

The statement that eBay makes is .......................................... that you "may not be covered". It does not flat out say you will not be covered.
As others have explained just splitting things is not "changing" the address in a way that would cause the loss of "Seller Protection".
In this example I have "altered/changed" this address to move the "spot 73" to the second line. I have done nothing to "void" my "Seller Protection".

Just a warning that pops up whenever something is different than presented. eBay can not code to recognize when a minor change is altering to the point of losing protection, so the warning just pops up many times when changes are made. Generally there to warn the seller when making major changes like a request to send to a different address.

It is frustrating, but I believe moving lines around is not changing the address. I'm more frustrated with items purchased on the US site for International shipping not requiring the address in English so it is not rejected by USPS.

Easy answer. Because you are the seller and it is your responsibility to fix any issues and get the item to your buyer. Do not rely on others to fix your problems.

@rabites-n-chocobos No, reformatting an address is not changing it. In fact, all Ebay cares about is the zip code and the delivery.

Do you know how scammers work? There is a reason EBAY warns you that changing the address will invalidate you selling protection.

Why do they allow it? That is the question.
Can they code that?

Ebay is a business. They want sales. Do you think Ebay users should "Give up the sale by cancelling it and move on"? No, that user canceled it because Ebay said it was 40 chars or more. Any not-stupid seller will say.......**bleep**. this seems like a scam.
Do you realize how to scam this? We as a community should test this. A seller altered my address. I never received the item. I want a full refund. Do you guys think this happens?

You don't get what I'm saying. Why does Ebay allow 40 char addresses in the first place? Why not solve it with a couple lines of code?

People who know how to program, can restrict user input to 40 characters or less. We do this stuff ALL THE TIME.
