Add recommended item specifics is a MESS

Is there ANY plan to fix this whole trainwreck?

I am trying SO HARD to add these specifics, yet it's borderline impossible when every other item I "update" does not reflect those updates. It's always something and it's getting on my last nerve. 90% of my 320+ listings that "need item specifics" do not even need them.

Why does every single item need a "character" or any number of other specifics that have nothing to do with them? All this whole debacle is doing is making unneeded work for us and serves no purpose other than to annoy us.

My sales have tanked this last week and i have to wonder if eBay is somehow "punishing" me for not having all of the "suggested" specifics.

At this point, I am pretty sure I speak for a lot of us sellers when I say CAN WE NOT? Just let us list our items and let us sell them without badgering us constantly about the most useless things possible.

If there is a "known issue" in the eBay forest, does anyone at eBay hear it? Try to spin your head around that one for awhile! Weeeeeeeeee!!!

"There are known knowns. There are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we do not know we don't know."

Does eBay have a new consultant we don't know about?! 🤣

Get out of my brain!  This is your brain. 🙂. This is your brain on eBay. 😲🙈🙉🙊😤

Maybe that new consultant is lost in the same forest? When and if they ever turn up they need to be either fired or voted out of the forest because they were chosen as the weakest link!!

Re: Add recommended item specifics is a MESS

I agree 100% about the suggested recommended specifics nightmare. And I also feared ebay would strangle my sales if I didn’t address each and every useless, pointless, suggestion. And so, I bit the bullet and spent almost 3 hours picking through my listings (p.s. if you haven’t found the box to check that states “don’t show this again” make sure you do so ebay won’t continually suggest the same thing)

anyway since completing all recommendations 5 days ago, I haven’t had a single sale, offer or question from buyers. Nada. That’s never happened to me in 4 years. I even completed all my buyer feedback...zilch!

calling ebay tomorrow I guess...

I so dislike every aspect of the recent overhaul. I feel like I have no control over any part of the sales experience.
blah, blah, blah...

I post and I post and for what?

Re: Add recommended item specifics is a MESS

Came here to complain about the stupid character thing. Literally every clothing listing of mine suggests I add a character - THERE IS NO CHARACTER. Ebay - fix this. It's such a waste of time for us.

Re: Add recommended item specifics is a MESS

I started with 300+ recommended IS for of all things the GPK cards... Well 90% of them were the GPK cards... a few for the bracelets, and an odd book here and there...  I had 2 that had required... I just flat out pulled them cause at .99 they weren't worth the effort.

Fine w/e... off to do the make work.  I sorted them by ending first.

Then broke them down further by Auction / FP.  Then started with the FP knowing if I did those first I'd never see them again.   So I filled in the ones that made sense... Franchise, Set (Garbage Pail Kids, All new series 1) Character.... well hmmmm I have 25 different Characters so nope not filling in that one. Card Name, Card number same thing... (the ones that were single cards I did fill all those in) all through the list I go... then (thanks to Auctiva) I realized that eBay only allows 20 IS.... so I started either filling in random ones with DNA OR creating my own... card size = standard, Autographed = No, Graded = Ungraded,  etc.  Creating my own : Subset = name of the subset with in the main set) Subset 2 = w/e parallel color it is.

Then I would click the button that says don't show this again.   I did figure out though if you click that button then click anything else on that screen it UNclicks that button... So those of you that are seeing them pop back up after you have clicked the "don't show me again" may need to check to see if it STAYS clicked.

Auctions are my bane.... I had to open the listing on both eBay AND Auctiva, and fill in the IS on both sites so when it relists I don't have to do this every 10 days or so.   On those I filled up to 20 no matter what even using some that no one in their right mind is going to look for or drill down with when searching these cards... Age - Adult, Movie - DNA, TV show - DNA, MPN - DNA  etc.   I used Vintage = no in every single one I could just to fill in the spots.   So far it's working...   I've gone from every GPK listing having 8-9 recommendations to - 4 recommendations (that's when I figured out you needed 20) to they are no longer showing in the list.

I do 10- 15 a day and I'm pretty much done with them...  I WILL say though by doing these a few at a time my cards are selling faster than they were... either because I'm touching them (if I touch something on eBay every single day sales tend to stay steady) OR because the IS being filled in are making my cards float to the top of search, OR because brother is on facebook telling peeps where all his cards are up for sale...

What I do know is once I quit having them show in the "IS Recommended" list I will go back through the rest of my listings and fill the other listings up till they all have 20ish as well.  10-15 a day.  (books, movies, mom's stuff and all that).   It gives me the "touch something every day" thing... and I've known for YEARS as long as I either list something, edit something, or remove something, put things on "sale", take things off 'sale' etc.  I have a steady stream of sales.... If I go a week without touching something sales drop like a rock.

LOL besides the more I edit the GPK cards the faster they sell and the less my kids have to count in Jan. 😁🤣  I mean we have 12+ 3in Binders full of the suckers.   I'm gonna make Hubby do the comics though I don't know enough about them to even begin to figure out more IS for those stupid things, and we still have 5 (out of 12 we started with 15 years ago) big long white boxes full.

Re: Add recommended item specifics is a MESS

here is a fun one, I've got a listing that tells me to add recommended specifics but there is not a single unfilled item under item specifics, I literally cannot add anymore specifics yet my listing is still tagged... my relationship with eBay currently is more hate than love but I'm making money so I guess I can deal with a bit a craziness...lol

Re: Add recommended item specifics is a MESS

I started by filling them in,  then noticed what you're seeing,  unnecessary specifics.  So I just went through and checked off don't ask me again or whatever it is and I think that satisfies ebay.  To me it's the same thing as finishing up messaging a customer and you say take care or good bye or whatever and the customer comes back and says you too.  This has already become redundant but ebay thinks you're ignoring the customer so I mark the "question"  as answered.  Hard to really know if it affects sales because there is an ebb and flow over 30 days.  I'd jut much rather have those "tasks" out of sight,  out of mind.  I don't want them around to make me think the lack of sales is due to not doing these "tasks" but rather that maybe my customer hasn't been born yet or turned 18.  😄

Re: Add recommended item specifics is a MESS

In the shoes Catagory, why does ebay want me to put in the austrailian size conversion?  None of this make any sense.  One would think that someone at ebay could see what a mess this is and correct it.  It's no wonder everyone's sales are in the toilet

Re: Add recommended item specifics is a MESS

There is an Australian Ebay (www.ebay.com.au).  since the sellers here are currently given the opportunity and the Honor to volunteer building Ebay's catalog for free,  it would only make sense to require us to make it International.

So all the shoe sellers should go and figure how to convert US to AU shoe sizes, even if we don't sell outside of The USA.
