Howdy! Does anyone happen to know if there is a way to specify what a "business day" is for me?
I'd like the "business day" to start and end at 5pm instead of midnight.
I offer next day shipping, which is usually fine, except that sometimes I wake up to find a new order, placed 10 minutes before midnight, that therefore expects to be shipped that same day. That can sometimes be a real challenge.
Thanks!

Because the one that comes in at 5 PM can be packaged and shipped out that very same day!
And if one comes in at 10pm, then at least it can be packaged up, with the shipping label printed and attached, that same day. A pickup can even be scheduled for the next day, thus finalizing the next-day shipping process completely.
But after I am asleep, it means I won't see new orders until 6am the next day, so I would prefer everything I find in the morning to be considered orders from that day, not the previous day. I ship these out same-day 99.9% of the time, and always at least print the label and box it up, but it's that occasional unusual day where I bring the box to the post office but just don't quite make it there before they lock their door (they close at 6 but often lock up at 5:45).
How is this not a problem for others?

The issue is only that if I drop something off at the post office after they are closed, they don't scan it until the morning.

Tell that to the post office! When I drop something off after they are closed, it does not get scanned until the next day. They consider business days to end when they close their doors, not at midnight. They do not differentiate between something dropped off at 7pm and something dropped off at 7am.

When I used next day handling, it was an annoyance because it worried me, but it never ended up being a problem. Do you have a large number of these? Even if you miss the next day scan, you will still be okay on the metrics if the package arrives ontime. I know it is riskier not to have that initial scan, but it's not a definite hit.
I didn't reread all the posts, but I didn't notice claims that Saturday/Sunday were counted as business days.

That setting is ONLY for sellers offering Same Day Shipping.
You keep saying that. I use it, as it defines my shipping time cut-off for that day. That is so my buyers KNOW that I will ship out items the same day if they order BEFORE that time. I have also added the information to my listing descriptions. Regardless of what the shipping time is set to.
As for a 1 day shipping time:
It is 24 hours from the time the order is paid for, PLUS however many hours till Midnight of that next BUSINESS day. So an order placed on a Wednesday at say 7AM doesn't have to be scanned as shipped till Thursday at 11:59PM. An item sold on say Friday at 11AM doesn't have to be scanned as shipped till Monday at 11:59PM.
I cannot recall the time frame for evening hours. I think its 8PM, but it could be 7PM. Before that point, its to be shipped by midnight that next day. But after, it would be up to midnight of the following day. So something sold at say 9PM on a Tuesday, would have up to midnight on Thursday to be shipped out. But I'm not finding that exact delineation cutoff mentioned anywhere yet.
At least that's how every item I have every sold and shipped have always shown when looking at the details. When I print my label, I also make sure to choose what day its shipping. Often it will default to the same day you print the label, so unless you are actually shipping it that day, you should change it to match the actual day you ship.
Edit.
I may be wrong on that. I was reading another post here from @my-cottage-books-and-antiques and forgot about the PT being a factor in deciding the cutoff time delineation. So my mistake there. And good information on changing the setting to match your time zone too, so I'm actually going to look into that myself! lol

If you are using some phone number it is highly likely to be WRONG. And potentially a scam number. Ebay has not had a call in Call Center since the Pandemic. Now we can request Ebay call us. Below are your options in contacting Ebay with whatever issue you may have. The link next to the last is the link that will take you to where you can request a call back.
And you are correct, you can not talk with a human 24/7. But there are other methods of trying to get help too.
On each Ebay page there is a link to contact Customer Service at the top of the page and again at the bottom of the page.
I would suggest that you contact Ebay for Business on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for the better trained CSRs.
Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service. Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is. Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.
https://twitter.com/askebay
https://www.facebook.com/ebay
https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/
Your options will be on the left. If you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant or Chat box type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options. Not all options are available 24/7. It will depend on staffing available. So sometimes you can request a call back and sometimes you can't. Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me. If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.
If you use a cell phone or other mobile device, you may need to turn off your Spam filter so that Ebay can call you.
If you are a seller outside of the US or Canada, you will need to use the Chat Option.
