Account showing UK settings while I am in the US

Hello,

I moved from Greece to US more than five years ago. In the meantime I have used the US site to sell a couple of items with no issues.

Currently I have an auction open for an item and when I opened it I got some strange messages that I have a limit of 250GBPs but still went on and opened it with a lower price in $$$.

The auction is on the US site and the bids are in USD but I get notifications on my phone in GBP.

Also when I go to the payment options on the US site I see the following:

jimarmao_0-1642185324444.png

I think all this is because I probably opened the account on the UK site when I was in Greece.

All my addresses in the account info is in the US.

Is my current auction going to be affected by this?

Can this issue be fixed?

* my account username is the same used to open this post

Thanks

@jimarmao,

Yes, you did register your account on eBay UK. I see that your registered address is in the USA, but your "site of registration" is the UK. You can see this in the Seller Information, which is at the bottom of the left channel on your page showing your items for sale (in the buyer search view):

That is why your payment methods, and payment currency, are in £.

You can change your site of registration, but this can make it difficult to sign up for Managed Payments, and it may mess up your managed payments registration, if you already have or if you are in the process of doing that. Some sellers have reported that they were not able to sign up for managed payments if they had changed their country of registration just before registering, or after they started the registration process the first time.

Please let us know if you have signed up for managed payments yet, and provided a bank account for receiving payments, and an SSN or Tax ID number, assuming that you have to provide since since you are resident in the USA.

FYI, if you haven't signed up for MP and verified your account, I would recommend that you end your listing early and cancel the bids, because you won't be able to receive payment for it. I'm sure you don't want to give it away without getting paid.

Re: Account showing UK settings while I am in the US

Thank you for the answer.

Two things,

How do I change the country of registration. I cannot seem to find a relevant option.

And, If I change the country of registration and sign up for MP will this really affect the open listing?

I mean, it is going really well and I wouldn't like to kill it and open it again.

I wouldn't mind if ebay holds the payment until the MP is complete.

OK, so from what you said, it sounds like you haven't signed up for MP yet, please confirm if that is correct.

First question:

You can't change your site of registration yourself, you have to ask customer service to do it for you. Here's how, but I recommend that you wait until you get answers about MP registration before you do this.

  1. Make sure that your registered address is in the country where you want your site of registration to be. (I think you've already done this.)
  2. Log on to the website that you want to be your site of registration (ebay.com, in your case), then contact eBay Customer Service by phone, and ask them to change your site of Registration to their eBay website (ebay.com).

I don't know what is the latest, updated advice on registering for managed payments when your site of registration doesn't match your registered address. I'm going to reach out to some other responders to try to get this to the attention of people who may be able to help you.

@mam98031   tyler@ebay

Hoping one of you can help the OP, or direct him where he can find some help.

He hasn't registered for MP yet (waiting confirmation on this). He registered on eBay UK, and now lives in the USA and his registered address is in the USA, but his payments are linking back to eBay UK.

OP has an active auction, with about 4 days left to go. As it stands he can't receive payments for it, but in this situation, can he register for managed payments in the USA, with a US bank account and (presumably) a tax ID number?

Does he need to change his site of registration before he registers for MP, and if not, can he change it after registering for MP?

Re: Account showing UK settings while I am in the US

Thank you all for the support.

I contacted eBay support and they advised that I should open a new US account, close the old listing and re list it under the new account.

The whole process sucks but there is no alternative

Re: Account showing UK settings while I am in the US

@jimarmao

I think that you are seeing the currency issue because you haven't signed up for Managed Payments but Ebay customer service may not be correct that you have to close your account and open a new one here.  It's my understanding that you have to sign up for managed payments in the country where you live, bank and pay taxes.  If that is the US for you, then you should be able to sign up on the US site regardless of your registration site.

Many Canadians registered on the US site because there was no Canadian site at the time.  When it was time to sign up for MP, some were told that they had to close their account and register in Canada but that wasn't the case at all.  They simply had to register for MP on the Canadian site as that's where they lived.  I would think that in your case it would be the same or similar.  Since you live in the US you should be able to sign up for MP on this site with your current account.  Of course I'm just going by the Canadian situation which is sometimes unique but you might want to try signing up for MP with this ID before you try something else.

Re: Account showing UK settings while I am in the US

Sorry to be late to this @lacemaker3, but I can confirm that @pjcdn2005 is correct: it is not necessary for OP to close their account in order to register for MP. The onboarding flow should put them on the appropriate 'track' so to speak as long as the registration address and information is correctly updated, and they initiate the flow from the proper site (UK for OP from their screenshot).

Once a member is registered for their payments to be managed by eBay they can list on any site, regardless of their location. So, as an example, a Canadian member must register for payments via eBay.ca, but once activated they can resume listing on .com, .UK or any other site.

Thanks!

Please review the whole thread, and double-check some things for us.

OP is not in the UK, and apparently never has been. They live in the USA, and their registered address is in the USA. However their site of registration is eBay UK because they opened the account on ebay.co.uk while they were living in Greece. From what I understand, OP has never lived in the UK, because they moved from Greece to the UK.

As I understand it, if OP is resident in the USA then they need to register for Managed Payments in the USA, and from eBay.com (not from eBay.co.uk). Can you please confirm this?

@lacemaker3 - Yes. OP should follow the registration flow for the site that matches their registration address**. If that is US-based they should follow the registration flow on .com. I think it may be a moot point for OP right now, but for anyone else reading this thread it would still apply!

**This assumes that the registration address is accurate at the time you begin registering for payments
