Account Unfairly Restricted

Our business account has been restricted for something I don't think we've done. eBay have alleged that we've been trading outside of eBay (which is factually incorrect). We've been told that we've passed contact details via messages. eBay have sent me 3 item numbers that they allege are involved. I've reviewed all the messages in our inbox, sent items and recycle bin and can find no message sent from us that contained our contact details. Someone made an enquiry about an item and asked us for a contact number. We did not give our our number in our response to them but we did tell them that our contact details our on eBay shop page. I can't find any record that we have done what eBay alleges we have and now we're restricted!

Re: Account Unfairly Restricted

Shouldn't there be some central location where changes to eBay policy are displayed along with the date of the change?  How are the responders to know when a policy change has been made...very frustrating!

If ebay were to make an announcement or post notification of any kind with a definite date, how would they be able to tell a seller - who had no idea of the change - that they are now below standard and charge that extra 4%?  Or notify a seller that they were no longer TRS?  Or charge full store fees, with no support or help, because the account was restricted?

I mean, unless it is retroactive, how could they add to the bottom line?

Ahhh, I guess like that isn't unheard of either.  Hmmmm

Re: Account Unfairly Restricted

That may work for you, but for sellers like us selling large heavy items we communicate with almost all our buyers beforehand to quote shipping rates, shipping options, explaining how freight and greyhound shipping work.

We do not take ebay sales of ebay, in every question we get we are clearly trying to negotiate a sale on eBay. It is not unusual for us to answer between 20- 40 questions per day.

Since we have done nothing wrong, it seems highly unfair to openly accuse us of wrongdoing

Re: Account Unfairly Restricted

We have a physical shop and a website like many other businesses do. If your assumption is correct a business would not be allowed to sell any of their products unless it was through eBay, including in their physical stores? I wonder if PC World know that they are not allowed to sell things in their physical stores? Instead they have to insist that every customer logs in to eBay to buy it through their eBay shop!

@malvernusedgardenmachinery

It is goofy of ebay to do this.

Often a buyer needs to find if the item will work for them.

I had a guy ask about a wing tip skin, I knew he had pranged the tip.

I had to ask his model year and serial number.

And the extent of the damage.

I had other tip repair parts, not yet listed.

We went two days, back and forth working out details.

A 5 min. phone call would have been all we needed.

I could have sold direct to him as the parts were not listed on ebay.

But ebay brought us together, so I made a custom listing, and ebay got their cut.

When Mr. C got a new power tool, he had a question about it.

My friend with a wood working shop, had the same tool.

Can I put in a ph number or email... nope...

Many of us here have become friends,

One sent me a monkey coffee mug.

I am still looking for the right mug to send to her...

Re: Account Unfairly Restricted

This is a typical eBay response to a non-problem. They have to figure out why they are losing market share, it must be from off-site sales. Let's figure out a way to stop this and in the meantime let's p off the good sellers. Every time they do this they lose a batch of sellers and then try to figure out why they are losing market share.

So many sellers have gone to flea markets and booths and craigslist. In my 20 my years I never had a potential eBay sale materialize into an off-site sale. In the beginning, there were a few hints but it was more to get a look in the door. Another shot in the foot.

Nope, happened to me also. A buyer posted his company Web address in the signature line of his message.

Re: Account Unfairly Restricted

Oh, but if you want to buy a "sponsor" ad that shows up in a listing, you can include anything you want. Thst defeats the auction item and definitely drives sales away from ebay.

Re: Account Unfairly Restricted

I received a phone call a few months ago. An actual live call. A customer had tried to get me to sell them an item off eBay, which I responded that I couldn't do that.

I couldn't figure out why I was called but the guy said that I should NOT have responded to the message.  HUH?

Re: Account Unfairly Restricted

Ebay has gotten out of hand restricting and distrusting sellers.  In my case I received an unfair warning that they are "watching" us and we shouldn't make any offers outside of ebay.  I didn't even do anything, I sent an offer to a potential buyer which they declined and then I decided to take the product off the listing because I changed my mind on selling because I was having a hard time getting what I wanted and they automatically assumed that I was going behind their back?  Now my  account is currently restricted because they are accusing me of selling a counterfeit item when I have shown the markings on the item, they took it upon themselves to say that the "jewelry item" that I was selling is not available in silver which is not true, it's is only available in silver all over the internet but all of a sudden they are treating me like a liar?  And other ebay members offering the same exact item are not being blocked form selling.  Very frustrated... they make a lot of money out of us buyers that stick to the rules and have good seller feedback.

I'm convinced eBay has less than zero interest in fixing what's really wrong with the market share because that would involve looking in the mirror.

Yes, that is what he is saying. This is a known ebay glitch. Sellers are receiving warning messages directly from ebay for simply receiving letters from buyers that are hinting towards doing a transaction off ebay.

Wow... unscrupulous cutthroat competitors are really  gonna have a blast with this one!

Way to go, eBay!
