ALIPAY Question

I understand that ALIPAY is only available for buyers in Mainland China. Is this correct?

I do not ship internationally, so I wonder why I saw this on one of my listings. If it matters, I viewed a listing using my phone's browser, not the app. This sure could be confusing for US buyers.

Re: ALIPAY Question

I viewed your listing using my desktop computer and don't see any Chinese.   Maybe there is something weird going on with EBAY app (seems to think you are located in China).

Your handmade ornaments are cute.   You should charge more money (competitors charge $4-$8).  EBAY selling fees will eat up any profit.   Fees based on total sale ($2 purchase price + $4.35 shipping + $0.63 sales tax) plus 30 cent handling charge.  You pay fees on total sale $6.98 plus 30 cent handling charge.

Re: ALIPAY Question

@caldreamer

The estimated delivery date shown on the listing is Fri, Nov 22 - Sat, Nov 23. That makes it seem that eBay recognized my current location when I was viewing the listing. I agree with you that there is something weird going on.

Thank you for your concern regarding my profit margins. I am OK. Most buyers buy multiple items, so I do make a little profit.

Liz, have you heard anything additional regarding this?

Re: ALIPAY Question

When you view your own items, it is giving you an ETA to your address / zip code.  It has always been that way.

Do you offer EIS?  If you don't , you should consider it.

EIS is a great program. I encourage you to read about it and decide for yourself if it will work for you. It takes almost all the risk for international shipping off the sellers.

Re: ALIPAY Question

I agree with you.  I've been trying to get her to raise her pricing for a few years.  I love what she creates, I've even purchased a few.

@mcdougle4248 you are correct that AliPay is only available to buyers in mainland China.

Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything else about it. The one person who reported seeing it on their own listing, like you are, is in the US and does not ship internationally as well.

They said they do use a VPN (thinking that could have something to do with why it was shown to them) but the VPN is set for a US location so in theory it really shouldn't have caused eBay to think they were in China.

If you don't use a VPN, then my guess is that was not the issue and eBay is just being glitchy eBay, kind of like how sometimes we see reports around here of people seeing log in screens or other pages in different languages.

The bigger concern I would have is if US buyers are seeing that pop up when it shouldn't, because it might make them think something is wrong or otherwise disrupt/dissuade them from making a purchase.

So far I've only heard of it being shown incorrectly like that to sellers when looking at their own listings, but it's always possible we just haven't heard from any buyers yet.

↑ ↑ ↑ This is my concern as well. I found a post on the mentor board that may have been from a buyer, or at least a member using their buyer account to post, here:

Jeez, there is something new to discover every day here; something new does not always equate to something positive!

Re: ALIPAY Question

For what it's worth, I'm not (yet) seeing the ALIPAY offer on the app while shopping. I'll try to check more of my own listings and let you know if it appears.

eBay's having a few offer/popup issues recently. There's this one that's showing up for accounts that don't use the app where the content window is 2/3 blank so people can't even it's the app that's being advertised. If you didn't see that one, let me know - I'll find the link/screenshot for you.

I haven't seen the popup you describe. When you have time, I'd appreciate seeing the screenshot.

Re: ALIPAY Question

The 2 pop ups are totally unrelated as to the type of problem, but I still thought it was worth mentioning.

The ALIPAY popup is erroneously showing on US accounts.

The other popup is an error with the actual popup missing information. If I didn't know it was for the app, I'd have no clue what was going on. It was appearing on the home page on one of my accounts that doesn't use the app. And 2 days ago I saw it on another page - maybe my watch list? I can't remember. Devon reported the issue.

Yes, based on the estimated time of arrival (ETA), it seems that the listing I viewed recognized my address in the USA. Since ALIPAY is only available to buyers in mainland China, I shouldn't have seen the ALIPAY pop-up on my screen.

Re: ALIPAY Question

IMG_9877.JPG

It is shown to China buyers...imagine buyers in China get a discount on my items by China...and we in other countries get nothing like that. I found out today when I was trying to block added items in China today.

What you must do if you clink on one of these...make sure you clink back to the USA in 'shipping'...all my items were showing only the shipping portion "Does not ship to China"...LOL
