A way to prevent non-paying bidders on higher priced items.

I don't get why eBay can't make a buyer put a $50 deposit down to bid on a $500 item, then if they don't win, they get it right back.

How about if you think the items going to go for $500 you list it with immediate payment required?

That is fine for BIN, but won't work on auction.

A lot of higher end auction places usually require a deposit of some sort.

If that's true, why don't you sell there?

First of all, it would result in fewer bidders; how is that a good thing?

But how would that help?  Are you thinking ebay or the seller would somehow be able to keep the 50 bucks if the buyer doesn't cough up the rest?
