Hey guys. I wonder when do you leave feedback to your customers. As I buyer I almost always get a feedback already after purchase and payment "fast payment, quick response bla bla bla" or don't get any feedback at all.
I usually track my shipments so I leave feedback when the item is delivered. When do you leave? After payment? Or you wait a little bit because the buyer could be a scammer and you can't report him after positive feedback? Maybe you wait for a positive feedback from buyer. Or never leave feedbacks?
I always leave feedbacks. I saw few negative feedbacks of my friends and sellers I buy from. "The seller didn't leave me a feedback so I'm gonna leave him negative feedback because I purchased 3 items". For me as a buyer, it's pretty funny. As a seller: scared me that no feedback could be a such big problem for customers.

But I look at it this way if I have customer come into my brick and mortar store and they make a purchase and pay, I am going to thank them right away whether they thank me or not. Why? Because as soon as they pay they have fulfilled their end of the transaction and I am grateful they chose me over my competition. I do not feel when someone gives me their money that they owe a thank you or positive feedback, we just hope they keep coming back. Once again not knocking your comment as your consistent good advice has earned our respect.
Thank you for the compliment~very much appreciated and I am glad that you find what I post worthy, and I am honored and humbled by your respect. I'm glad you feel I earned it.
But I'm sorry if my post was unclear~I wasn't stating that was the right way, or the only way, to leave feedback (after the buyer does). I simply meant that many sellers do it this way. It was, as I said, the accepted and Ebay recommended way to leave feedback~but that changed in 2008, when Ebay eliminated negs for buyers. Feedback for buyers evolved into a simple thank you and not a reflection of the user's behavior. I respect everyone's right to decide how they want to post feedback. There is no right and wrong way; I understand why some do it one way, others do it another, and some don't do it at all. I'm sorry I did not state that.
I totally understand that it is up to each seller to decide how they want to handle posting buyer feedback. Some may decide to not post any. Some may post at payment, as you do; some may prefer to wait til the buyer posts. It is voluntary, so no one is wrong. There is a chance, however, that those who wait to post until the buyer posts may get a neg happy buyer who is offended and drops a neg reflecting that! It's sad it can come to that.
I understand that you feel that the buyer's part of the transaction is over at payment, but actually, there are many types of bad buying behavior that can occur AFTER payment, so many sellers do not consider posting at that time, as they know the transaction is not over at that point. If they get someone who exhibits bad buying behavior after they have paid, they may feel they posted a dishonest positive when they would have preferred leaving that buyer no feedback at all, since they can't leave a negative.
But if you are comfortable posting after payment, that's fine. You're not alone, many do it that way. But even if you were alone, it is still your right to post whenever you choose to, as feedback is voluntary.
Hopefully this more fully clarifies this.

Also it is not so much of a waiting to get a thank you, as it is to be sure the buyer is satisfied and there are no shenanigans that ensue!

I don't remember there ever being a PROCEDURE on Ebay for leaving feedback that the seller had to go first. In fact before I started in 1999 you didn't even have to be in a transaction with someone to leave them feedback. I was an active poster on many of the Ebay boards including the Feedie Forest and there was never a procedure for the order of feedback.
Since the benefit of selling on Ebay is to run your business the way you want within the Ebay confines, sellers (and buyers) should leave feedback when it makes sense for them.
When we see some of the dregs of Ebay humanity showing up here I don't understand why anyone would want to give bad sellers a chance to drive away your good buyers. So I totally understand why Ebay does not allow equal access to feedback any more. It's never a good idea to insult your paying customers.
Perhaps a better word would be suggests. Ebay suggested that the seller wait until the buyer posted positive feedback signalling the transaction was satisfactory. Then the seller posted, knowing the buyer was happy and the transaction was over. Just as Ebay now suggests, or recommends, that the seller post buyer feedback after the buyer pays. These are suggestions or recommendations, you are right~it's not a procedure since feedback is voluntary.
I remember when you didn't have to be in a transaction to leave feedback.
That's why Ebay eliminated negs for buyers~so paying customers were not insulted. Many posted retaliatory, false negs in response to an honest neg by a buyer.

I only give feedback when the buyer gives me feedback.
I was scammed once, buyer opened "unauthorized transaction" claim with paypal, lost my money because the tracking didn't work anymore (it was almost 6 months after the sale) , and I have given positive feedback . neither Paypayl or ebay protected me, buyer won. So after that experience I don't give feedback until the buyer does first. am I wrong?
No. you're not wrong. Whatever works for you, whatever you are comfortable with, is right for you. Your kind of experience often changes how a seller leaves feedback because they feel they gave a dishonest positive to a buyer.

Never...kind of.
We have it set to automatically leave it when the buyer leaves their positive feedback for us

I agree with everyone else who says you are doing it right if most of your customers would dislike it if you left feedback first. Buyers who are offended by getting a feedback first might not give the best feedback.
And, it is worth the extra time and trouble of waiting until the buyer leaves feedback if that would cause fewer buyers to do something to cheat the seller.

I heard of a seller who likes to leave feedback at a certain time, but that seller has found a way to do it without spending as much time as it takes to look and see if a customers has left feedback, and then leave feedback for those customers who have left feedback.
That seller leaves feedback after he has finished his evening meal. His customers seem to like the time he has chosen to leave feedback, and that's what feedback for buyers is all about.
