Did you mean:

98.5 % of postal workers get to keep their jobs.

Getting tired of all the chicken littles clucking about 10,000 workers being laid off - out of a work force of 663,000 workers. That is 1.5% of the work force. And for that little number you're clutching your pearls? Seriously?

Couple that with all the complaints about sales being down. Well if we are shipping less then they don't need as many workers in the first place.

Re: 98.5 % of postal workers get to keep their jobs.

It will likely be mostly those that are retiring and some early retirement employees.

Which fake news would that be since I never watch the news?

Save your empathy as well, I don't consider myself a victim. I grew up with the belief that to be a victim was to admit one was ill prepared to deal with lifes' problems or unwilling to.

As I stated before, a little rain doesn't bother me. A cloudy sky is just a preclude to another sunny day.

And it is highly likely that most if not all of these jobs lost will  be those that are retiring or retiring early.  It isn't enough to significantly impact the function of USPS.  It is a little over 1% of the workforce for USPS.

I suppose if it's not you losing your job, what does it matter?

Re: 98.5 % of postal workers get to keep their jobs.

When getting done at my job I took a $$$ incentive to retire. I waited for that opportunity. I did not "lose" my job.

As has been offered, likely what is going to be happening with a large %age of that small %age.

Yes a family member in the postal service tells me as such. He says he's not in the slight bit worried about it.

He told me there's alot of employees that are just too old to effectively do their job and should retire. They just pretty much collect pay and benefits while adding to their SS and pensions.

Re: 98.5 % of postal workers get to keep their jobs.

The other group within in the USPS that needs close review are the probationary employees, carriers in this case, who were hired after the entrance exam was changed.  When 473 was replaced with 474 the USPS stopped focusing on carrier competence and shifted the entire focus toward "customer service".  It sounds great in theory, but now there are thousands of new carriers who cannot do the job, but knew how to answer the questions in a way that the government felt was good.

I don't care if my carrier uses my preferred pronoun, but I would like for him/her to be able to distinguish between a "6'" and a "9" on an address line and know the difference between MI and ME.  None of these basic, essential skills are tested for anymore.  This is a big part of why subs don't stick around.  They aren't fired, but once they get out on the road, they discover that they are entirely incapable of doing the job.  After a couple of weeks of 13 hour days (which are entirely the fault of the carrier, as the routes are completed by their competent counterparts in 9-9.5 hours), they just stop coming in and who can blame them?  I wouldn't make it through five minutes of a work day on Wall Street, but fortunately no one would ever even let me try.

Re: 98.5 % of postal workers get to keep their jobs.

If you've never worked for USPS ( I did ), you have no idea what clerks and many employees go through. Many areas have an ongoing shortage of help. My own local office has been closed 3 times in the past couple months simply because there was no one who could fill in when they got sick. They are constantly looking for people ( mostly part time at poor pay rates) to fill positions.  It's in upper management where things need to change. That's on Joyless. He's the one who trashed brand new sorting equipment that would have helped a lot.  Hiring freezes and trying to shut down the small offices will just cause more issues. Oh wait ...that's the idea... make it look as bad as possible so there's an excuse to privatize it. Nice favor for your big donors.  Don't whine when it gets much worse and something you needed doesn't get there.

Re: 98.5 % of postal workers get to keep their jobs.

So the small communities should go without? People should have to drive an hour to get to  a PO? That's why a law was put into effect to keep them. The PO was NEVER supposed to be a money maker. It's a service to the people! I worked in numerous small offices and I never spent time doing nothing! You've no idea what they put clerks and other employees through.

wish more people would just get out of the house and talk to people - just have a chat with people

around you (in person). And not  just people who agree with you...all kinds of people. Go into conversations in a neutral position which will allow you to actually LISTEN to people.

the election says it all but if you wonder how it happened just TALK TO PEOPLE without hate & anger and ask questions.

I for one am VERY happy about everything happening in US government right now as are a majority of Americans. I have friends who don't agree with all  of my thoughts and opinions but I enjoy conversations and learn about their concerns and views.

Going into every conversation with hate & anger is like putting on a blindfold and earplugs....

The USPS has been a mess for a long time. I am lucky to have a really nice (hard working/reliable) group of USPS employees here in my small town but I lived in a big city before this and my lord what a mess my post office was there. hateful lazy employees who went out of their way to make life more difficult for customers.

>>it is time to clean up the mess in USPS - glad someone is finally taking on the challenge!
