Richard: Trump lies.
No countries contacted him. He never named the countries, only two Japan And South Korea. But the other countries did not want to deal with the maniac in the WH.

- Movieman is right. Trump lies.
- Only two countries contacted him. Not 70.
- Trump tariffed an island with penguins. That tells you how much he knows and reads.
- The market as of today 4/11 is still falling. Have you checked your 401K/IRA?
-We have a lousy Congress

A couple of business people told TV news that their cost to get their products through customs was 3-4 times what they normally pay. The products are sitting in the factory.
from $30K to 200,000. She has 3 months supply, but after that she's out of business and can't "build" a factory in 6 months. And building the factory would cost $200K.

There is a difference between a doom and gloom attitude fueled by partisan thinking and a realistic look at facts causing one to have concern.
For me,
1. Sales are down on eBay since this tariff instability.
2. Retirement accounts are down significantly
3. Costs for packing materials etc have increased
4. The published numbers on the likelihood of a recession or depression are up, meaning the chances have increased
5. Farm income is down with most farmers I know, including my husband and myself, expecting a bailout will be necessary.
6. Costs for our business have risen and more are expected to come. eBay-the price of shipping via USPS for example. Our machine shop is losing orders with government cuts and automotive industry cuts as well as heavy industry cuts.
7. International orders on eBay, for me, are way down. I had 1 this last 30 days. A year ago, in comparison, I had 31.
8. Family and friends in Canada are united behind the idea of not buying anything from the US. It's an impressive grassroots movement.
9. Family and friends in Europe, same as in Canada. I've had more emails from people shocked and horrified at the US actions than I can relate.
10. Then came the statement from President Trump he is planning to tariff pharmaceuticals. That will hit my husband and I particularly hard as his medicines are already over $3000 a month.
11. Factories can't be built and staffed in months.
12. And then came the news clip of President Trump laughing and announcing proudly Charles Schwab made billions of dollars the other day.
13. Then executive orders about shower heads and other US seemingly important "priorities."
14. None of those executive orders help me pay my bills, run my businesses, or feed my family.
So yes I'm concerned.
Enough circuses. More bread.
As to tough guys:
Tough guys are men like my husband.
Served in military.
Built a business
Went to work and fed his family
Raised his kids to be men
Minded his own business
Went to church
Helped those who needed
Didn't ask for praise
Never inherited a thing
Never ran his mouth about how tough he is
Never asked for praise
He just took care of business
A man is not defined in my house by the size and volume of his mouth. But by the size of his actions and his heart.

It's hard not to offend people these days so I changed the photo.
It was only meant in humor based on the post above it saying he is "bad ass"I hope you get more pleasure from the penguins photo
You are correct, people do get offended too easily but your picture was not appropriate. Great job of replacing it with a non-offensive picture quickly. (which was clever and funny)

Been to Canada may times Eastern and Western the VAT was adopted in1991 business & pleasure Windsor was just a bridge or tunnel away.
In 1991, Canada implemented a 7 percent national value-added tax (VAT) to replace a tax on sales by manufacturers. The VAT was introduced by the Conservative party, which had concerns about industry competitiveness and the country's fiscal situation,
A consumption tax IS a sales tax. Because Canada calls it a "consumption" rather than "sales" taxes, it does not mean they function any differently.
A tax is a tax is a tax. It's just another way to steal the money of the working people and reallocate their wealth to someone else. I don't know why people want to get caught up in semantics. Does it REALLY matter?

Thanks for posting that information. This box:
... suggests to me that international buyers are in for some very unpleasant news at checkout, which is where I assume they will receive the bad news about the real cost of their purchase.
I'd imagine that negative / neutral feedback will not be much of a problem, as overseas buyers are likely to just cancel their purchases outright. Thoughts??

No disrespect but the group singing a sad song now, were singing a sad song since Trump decided to run; and, they realized how pro-American he was/is.
Covering yourself in a flag and chanting America first, doesn't mean that's what someone really thinks. Campaign slogans, more likely. If you are pro America, you do all you can to protect and not hurt Americans. Given that the average American is in financial hardships and struggling to get by, attempting to destroy the economy is not a way to heal the country.
Why do people fool themselves into thinking ANY of the political class care one bit about the average American? They don't care about you and me, and don't honestly care about America, they care about themselves. Trump will stick his name on ANYTHING if it pays him. He cares so much about America and bringing back jobs to the USA, he stuck his name and signature on $10,000 Chinese made guitars his last presidential run.
If you are gonna talk the talk, you got to walk the walk. If he believed in "America first", selling 10K made in China guitars would be the LAST thing you would be willing to do.

Well said. Having spent 40-plus years of my life in the political cesspool known as Washington DC, I can assure you that we have something akin to a caste system in this country.
To say that the political class don't care about the rest of us is actually a charitable description of how they really feel.
Although I have never personally experienced the need or impulse to idolize another human being, I think that such adoration is quite common here in the USA, regardless of political affiliation.
There is, incidentally, a vast psychoanalytic literature on the subject -- both on those who seek adoration, and on those who provide it -- which is fascinating to read.
History can indeed repeat itself... thus, the immortal words from George Santayana:
"Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it."

To be fair, this video was posted a year ago -- long before anyone in the USA imagined that Mr. Trump would slash veterans benefits, gut Medicaid, make it difficult for the elderly to validate their Social Security status, and then levy global tariffs in order to finance his 10-year budget plan that was passed on Capitol Hill yesterday... all of which, if they affect you personally, are, I reckon, worse than the murder of a complete stranger on the front steps of the White House.

That information applies to US buyers who are purchasing from outside the USA. And, the unpleasant news won't come at checkout. The tariffs "... will be excluded from the prices displayed to buyers on eBay." The sticker shock will come when the US buyers have to pay the tariffs (and probably, brokerage charges) before they can get their package.
Although a similar situation will also apply to many buyers from outside the USA who purchase from sellers in the USA, since most countries have imposed tariffs on goods from the USA.
The main issue I see with this, is that many sellers (around the world) are not used to filling out customs forms (which are now required for all packages coming into the USA). I have seen several examples already of sellers who did not fill out the country of manufacture correctly, or the item location correctly, resulting in unpredictable tariffs being charged, and/or unexpected delays.

@fbusoni
Unless I have misinterpreted the message, I don't think buyers are going to see any information about this "at checkout" on eBay. They will see it when the merchandise hits their country AND should already be aware of what their own country is charging for import fees on goods from the US.
