Wouldn't that be like investing in yourself??

Re: 5TH OF THE MONTH AND OUT OF FREE LISTINGS

Some things don't lend themselves well to being listed by a newbie. Lack of established feedback and a higher degree of scamming on those accounts might mean it is more reasonable to just pay 35 cents and go with what you already have. It's a judgement or business call and simple risk/reward management.  I honestly feel that the risks of a brand new account are not worth it in most cases.

I honestly feel the risks of a new account are overblown, especially if the seller exercises a tiny bit of common sense and uses it for his lower-risk items until it has some traction.

Lack of established feedback and a higher degree of scamming on those accounts

Also, most sellers have a separate buying account with decent feedback. They can simply simply convert that buying account into a selling account, and use the brand new account for buying.

Rinse and repeat.

Re: 5TH OF THE MONTH AND OUT OF FREE LISTINGS

I wonder how much it has cost US.

People complain about the Chinese.... but the site is flooded with items whose own sellers aren't confident enough in to pay to list.

IMHO it has nothing to do with "confidence", it has to do with math.

When I get a free listing special for 500 items, I will sell $500 like clockwork.

I just absolutely have no idea which 35 items will sell, and I don't want to pay $175 (35% of my gross) to find out.

And IMHO my 1983 promotional photos of Kajagoogoo and Men At Work are not "flooding" anything.

Nowadays that's easier said than done, unless one wants to buy a bunch of Chinese junk. Trying to buy something with a low feedback account from many US sellers tends to end with a cancelled sale, generally because of a "problem with the buyer's address", even when there IS no problem.

I gave up trying to build up another account because I got so many of those types of cancellations. I guess sellers would stalk my address on Google maps and cancel, because according to Google I live in a cow pasture.  Newsflash - Google maps is frequently WRONG when it comes to rural addresses. In my case, it has the road reversed. My actual home where I have lived for the past 21 years is at the other end of the road, five miles from the field that my address is given to.

Well you won't have much earnings to take if you don't list anything for almost a month.

@tourn18   If not many of your items sell then that's probably a good idea.  However, if your average sale is around $ 10 then consider the entry level store with 100 pre-Paid insertions.  If your average sale is at or above $ 30 then consider the Basic Store level with 250 Auction and 250 Fixed Priced GTC listings (pre-paid of course).  With the Basic store you also get a Quarterly $ 25 coupon for eBay Branded Supplies and when use for packaging materials you normally pay out of pocket then it helps to defray the cost of the store (almost like getting 1 month out of 3 free).  The idea of course is one "average" sale pays for the Store monthly Fee ...

Anyway, just something to think about, no pressure ...

I have a basic store on this account. Why? Because I'd rather pay Ebay $22/mo and sell $300-500 a month and not have to worry about freebie listings than to list only 50 items and only make $50-$200 a month.  Most of the time it takes money to make money.

And yes, I do have another account that I sell on as well, using only the standard 50 free listings. I use it for low cost booklets that I ship with a stamp without tracking.  I used to sell on a third account, but currently I don't have anything listed on it. I don't like having multiple accounts. I'd rather have everything all under one roof, so to speak,  but with the different ways I ship I'd rather just keep the non-tracked items separate from the tracked ones.

I operate under the premise that if it ain't listed, it ain't sellin' - because it CAN'T sell.

Re: 5TH OF THE MONTH AND OUT OF FREE LISTINGS

I have zero experience with having a new account over the last 15 years so can only base my reservations on what other experienced posters say about the risks.  The OP sells radio tubes and such things that would seem to lend themselves to being scammed. Not trying to get any other seller to pay for listings. I do think if you realize that you can't do any further listings for over three weeks and have saleable items to list right now that you should consider it. Paying for the large store I have gives me a real sense of security when purchasing or deciding how to relist. The $75 a month I pay for it is a business tool for me and well worth it for the flexibility it gives me. Others might think it is a ridiculous sum to spend every month.

Re: 5TH OF THE MONTH AND OUT OF FREE LISTINGS

Great idea!!!!  I have a bunch of items that sending without tracking would lower the price enough to help them sell. As it is right now, I don't list them because I don't want any INR's on my single account and won't take a chance on those low priced items. With sales being slow I might consider trying a new account just for those items. I only know what works for me on eBay and make value decisions before I make any changes. Even if I got regular promotions for 200-500 free listings (I don't!) I wouldn't depend on them or let them change my listing process. When I have gotten them, I normally use them in one shot to either "sell similar" on however many there are, or do a one time mass listing of very similar items that I can list quickly. The store is a security blanket for me and worth every penny it cost.

If I lived in a cow pasture I would probably spend some time out looking for arrowheads and artifacts. Some of them are worth decent money.

My dad hasn't paid for a listing in over 65 years. And it cost him nothing. He's never had a negative feedback, SNAD, or INR filed against him neither.
