30 free returns

Is it true that ebay will remove your top rated seller discounts and badge if you don't offer 30 free returns by June 1st?

Re: 30 free returns

calistas, I am referring to a forced "free returns" policy in order to get TRS+ benefits. But yes, this automated returns being forced on us is out of this virtual world ridiculous!

Re: 30 free returns

The free returns policy is a complete and utter nonsense.   How expensive do our items have to be to include "free" shipping and "free returns"??  Now I have to raise prices to cover both because shipping is NOT free!   I have been a top rated seller for a long time and due to good descriptions and excellent customer service I have had about one return or two per year.  I am a kind of small time seller of mostly antiques and linens and every now and occasionally some clothing.  I usually offer "free" shipping on many items but free returns are just not in the budget.  How am I meant to make any money on a tablecloth that a customer used but then decided they "did not really like it" and returns it after use and probably unwashed as well.  I have not had this happening to me but I know it can.    After everything is said and done the prices will have to go up considerably to include free shipping AND free returns.  eBay makes it perfectly clear that without offering free shipping and returns our items will not be pushed to the front and a sale would be a kind of 'lucky' event.  My sales have gone down considerably since this nonsense was introduced but I will not be bribed.

Re: 30 free returns

I totally agree with everything you say but the problem is that eBay has the power to reduce exposure of our merchandise when customers are doing a search. My sales have gone down substantially as I keep offering 30 day returns at buyer's expense so I am thinking of finding another venue.

Oh yes, that is exactly what is happening. My sales have gone down substantially because of this ridiculous free return policy. I am looking to go elsewhere with my store.

Re: 30 free returns

I am in the same boat as you.  I have had top seller status for years, and my items are mostly $20 and under with free ship, 30 returns.  I feel exactly as you do.  In fact - ebay is not leaving anything for me.  Between them and paypal if I offer free returns I will be doing all the work for nothing, only they will profit. Not to mention having to compete with china on every single thing.  More like a bad garage sale on here any  more.   Debating on next move.  Might be a bowel movement.  Okay - I don't want to go downhill, but it ticks me off too!  What happened to protecting the sellers who they would not make anything without.

Re: 30 free returns

Here is the other issue, I’ve brought up before, but now faced with again. with returns, whether abuse of SNAD or if I make an exception, 75% of the time I do not receive the item back.  Then I need to call to inform big brother that I did not receive the item. At least the last time this part of the return process was not “automated”..closing the return when buyer does not ship it back in 5 business days from date of approval.

In this particular case I would be making an exception...the cost of shipping the buyer would be eating by returning is $16 on $50..if I had built in free shipping I would not even consider the exception - reason #1 IMO I may not get back.  Also it took 14 days post receipt for them to decide..typically with clothing, for fit reasons customers looking for an exception reach out pretty quickly.  So either they didn’t read I had a no return policy, or then went someplace cold in August on vacation and just got back 🤔  Thoughts anyone?

Re: 30 free returns

oh and another just funny..i packed a coat someone ordered, west coast order, I am east coast..shipping was $25. I was in bed the next morning and woman messaged me about 4 hours post purchase that her 1 or 2 year old son bought the coat..there was no way I was going to retrieve the package at that point - USPS driver picked up, and I just said if you want to return I will accept the return. She didn’t return. But seriously blame the kid? However my German Shepherd did order latin pornography chewing on the remote control as a “kid”...for real, so maybe the woman wasn’t lying? Except I didn’t call Verizon FiOS because “the puppy ordered pornography in a foreign language while I was in the shower” seemed like a bad excuse not worth the cost 🤣🤣

Re: 30 free returns

My understanding of the no return policy is this, the customer gets to keep the item and ebay issues them a refund. But check it out to be sure. By the way we just lost our top rated status because we can not offer a postage return free, we sell feathers the mark up is very small with a 1 or 2 dollar profit on a sale and could not pay 2.66 to 3.00 for the return, By the way has anyone looked to find out if the Chinese are held to the same standard.

I do not know if there is a way to find out. They can use US drop shipping or get fee credits from here.

Your understanding is often repeated here, but is incorrect. "No returns" means "no buyer remorse returns". If a buyer opens a "not as described" case, your return policy is not relevant; that falls under eBay's Money Back Guarantee.

If you refuse a "not as described" return, THEN eBay may refund the buyer, let them keep the item, and charge you for the refund.

Re: 30 free returns

"The kid ordered it" is a very common excuse because people just cannot take responsibility for themselves, and here on eBay, the buyers don't have to be responsible for their activities.

Re: 30 free returns

@ salar.413
That is incorrect. If the item is not returned, you do NOT have to issue a refund. If eBay is doing it automatically, it's because you are not following up on your cases, and you need to remove the automatic refunds feature that eBay surprised us all with. You really have to watch the time limits on cases, and never let them close by eBay. You have to tell ebay if an item is not returned within the time frame they are told to return it.

Re: 30 free returns

Yes, this is the ebay-enabled fraudulent returns that go against seller policies as a bully tactic to try to get sellers to accept free returns, by encouraging fraud.

@ feather-merchant
To disable automatic returns, go to your account summary page, site preferences, return preferences, and edit.
