I think it is very courageous of eBay to go after the myriad of grandmothers selling over $600 in annual sales. Wait until the effects of what eBay is doing hits Wall Street, the 10% drop this week will seem insignificant.

Well, from 20 Grand to Six Hundred dollars, sound like a pretty big 'change' to me.
One wonders why eBay Sellers (4 million supposedly) did not get 'involved' in the process on this matter. Couldn't they have threatened not to vote for their usual candidates in the Senate and the Congress? Not as if a Government will stop the IRS from creating new and nefarious means to grab the peoples ill gotten gains.

Agree. From $20,000 down to $600 is ridiculous.
I just recently received a message from eBay providing links to let your representatives know you don't like this rule/law. Seems like they should've done that 'before' it was implemented. It's fine to blame the government for everything (I do that quite often) but I'd be willing to bet that in this case, the CPA lobbyists played a part as well. Anytime you add tax entries/pages to a tax return, it increases preparation fees.
That's why in spite of the fact that my returns are fairly complicated most years, I've used tax software to do them myself since 1999.

Wow, do you read anything in the news? Do you know anything about the government? Do you really think it’s eBay? How about congress, or better yet, the democrats. Maybe point your finger at them. They are the ones that actually did this.

It's not ebay doing it. It's the current regime stealing money from the little guy. Anyone who agrees with this IRS theft is anti small business and is for an authoritarian greedy government stealing money from people.

You might want to direct the applause for eBay's going after the grandmas to the Federal government.
eBay does not make the laws regarding taxes.

In over 20 years selling on eBay I have never, ever seen a policy that applied just to grandmothers. That is absurd. Where did you read that? If that were true every single seller would be claiming to be a grandma. Even grandpas. Lol

Agree! Ebay should have taken 1% of those HUGE profits from the last 10 years, and lobbied our lawmakers. Shame on you EBAY. JPB

Your fellow American are the ones that decided that “Brandon” should be our president. Blame them. I would’ve rather had a twitter tweeting red head as the world was going round just fine with him.

Fool.
You were always required to report it. Now the us government requires companies like ebay to report it. In dact ebay lobbied against it. Speak to your local corrupt useless congressman/senator.

thats a dumb statement as you are required by law to report all income. what makes you so special?

I'd suggest that every once in a while you check your self-prepared forms by having a professional do an independent preparation, just to make sure the software isn't missing something.
< blame the government for everything (I do that quite often) >
Well, quite often the government is to blame.

Yes, nothing like destroying a thread with political garbage. Happens much too often.
