$10,000 bids on corning ware?

Hi

Could someone explain to me what kind of scam these sellers are pulling?I was just researching corning ware.Keyed in to sort highest to lowest.A bunch of actual sold items came up for $8000 to $10000 each. All by sellers with zero feedback.I own a good deal of the same corning ware..trust me not worth a penny on the dollar for what they claim it sold for.Im just trying to understand what these numb nuts are pulling?Actually I have seen similar situations in a few other categories...what are they doing?

More then likely the price is being bid up by co scammers no real sale taking place. Hoping to get someone caught up in what seems to be a bidding war to someone that is thinking the item is something special. Hope they get hit with huge final value fees when they screw up! LOL

Money laundering comes to mind.

Nah. It doesn't mean anybody actually paid for the item.

It also doesn't mean they didn't.

There probably are a few pieces that are valuable, it was a major American glassworks manufacturer for decades.  Some patterns were made in limited quantities.  Pyrex is also doing very well.  It's all heavy to ship and fragile, a bad combo.

Thank you for the heads up, I will be on the look out at the thrift store.

I had to look, there are at least a dozen sellers with listings for 25,000 for casseroles and sets of this.  Higher prices also, I didn't bother with sold listings, I agree...wt heck?  Boggles my mind.

could also be a "place holder"......meaning they will revise the listing to reflect something they have and not expend another listing to do it......sellers used to do that quite often, especially when there were not so many "free" listings........

Buyer here. Just wanted to say I noticed this last year particularly on a certain pattern Made in the 70’s. I forget what it’s called but it has vegetables on it.

I just wanted a clean uncracked piece and couldn’t find one under $500.

But after looking for a few weeks I found exactly what I wanted for $40 from a longtime seller with lots of inventory. Being patient and continually checking paid off for me.

If they are showing as sold items, then I would not be inclined to think they are place holders. I have see auctions that this has been done and if someone bought one at the place holder price the seller would need to scramble to find one to send.

$10,000 bids on corning ware?

Oh some author came out with an article on 10 vintage items to look for and what's increasing in value now and corning ware was one of the items. I too looked at the sites, 1st one pops up is a blue cornflower pattern griddle and teapot for a measly $32k??? "RARE" it states, yea right....I volunteer at my local thrift shop 10 hrs a week and I'm the pricer and in charge of the collectables plus I have my own store in an antique mall. All these patterns are a dime a dozen and can be found at any thrift shop, garage sale...just to many produced thru out the years. I actually had both of above said items come in lately and I priced the platter for $10 and the coffee pot for $5. I use corningware because it's good, but in my store, vintage Pyrex is still king and I can't keep it in stock, esp. the Amish butterprint pattern. These sellers that are price gouging this stuff are a joke, probably the same bunch that were listing that idiotic Supreme oreo cookies at $90k and toilet paper for $30k a sheet. I too hope they get hit with some major final fees and cancelled bids!  But again, none of those patterns or pieces are wholly grail or rare trust me!

Perhaps those inflated priced items were also another case of "monkey see monkey do."  I perused a few of the highest priced listings and most were from sellers with very little history of selling.    Some knucklehead posts some ridiculous listings that appear to have been sold.  Other users see the sold item price think they have a gold mine  with their corning ware and follow suit.  This nonsense started back in April and has continued.  One seller sold his corning casserole item listed at $8K five times and was never paid before he finally gave up.  Whenever you try to sell an item where it's clearly price gouging there are those users who purposely make bids and never pay.  That nonsense has been going on for months since the toilet paper and cleaning product price gouging started.

I honestly think some of these types of things could actually be eBay pumping their own numbers. I've seen some similar things in some other categories, as well.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they were actually technically "paid", and paid through managed payments.
