eBay file exchange upload help?

Hi there,

I need some help with the attached file getting uploaded?

Am using a Mac and am saving it as a CSV file but it keeps saying nothing has been uploaded?

I think there must be some data wrong in there somewhere and iv got a feeling its due to the relationship and details please see below... my item is a dress in a size variation...

Yes, there are some problems with the variations.

The master record for the variations has the word "Size" in the cell. Instead, it should contain a summary of all sizes:

Size=8;10;12;14;16;18;20

This tool can help generate the data format needed for a listing with single or multiple variations:

When size and color are in the RelationshipDetails, they are not repeated in the other columns assigned to the master record. So size and color would not be repeated on the variation lines.

The size in the master record would remain empty, since sizes are in the RelationshipDetails. Color would be assigned to only the master record. But if you plan to add colors to your variations, the master record would not contain a color.

When you get to StartPrice and Quantity, the master record would remain empty and each variation would hold those values.

Are you exporting to a CSV file? The Mac may use a different line-end character (a line-feed). I don't have a Mac to verify. The standard Windows line-end character is a carriage return. Check the settings on your spreadsheet to set the correct line-end. If the wrong line-end is present, the data would export as one continuous line instead of being broken into separate lines and the File Exchange system would treat it as an empty file.

Is this the first time you have used File Exchange? If so, I do recommend uploading only a "simple" listing first in order to work out all of the other issues you may encounter surrounding data format and shipping and returns. Then tackle the more complex variations.

I have corrected as you have mentioned... the product only comes in one colour so I only need size variation.

Im unsure if I am doing the picture variations correctly? can you please have a look at the attached screenshots?

And yes this is first time when trying to upload variations so this is basically a "test product"

This is a master record. Do not add to the variations.

Since you have only one photo for all sizes, use the image in only the master record and skip the variation photos, otherwise you will have a lineup of identical photos in the listing. However, if the photos were different, then you would add them to each variation as you did.

C:UnitQuantity

You don't need this column. This column would be for a pack of socks, to let the buyer know that the pack contained 3 pair.

C:Features

Breathable;Lightweight;Lined --> Breathable|Lightweight|Lined 

I have not tested this, but I believe that multiple values within a cell must be pipe-delimited, as is the case with multiple URLs.

Couple more questions when I uploaded the file it created new "shipping policies and return policies"

Is here a way I can put somewhere in the file that I want the listing to have my "default" shipping and return values?

I assume you are subscribed to "business policies", so you would enter the names of those policies and remove the columns that include specific shipping details (most likely 6 columns from ShippingType to DispatchTimeMax.  The name you would add for "ShippingProfileName" is your "eBay Default Shipping Policy"

Below are the column headings for policies:

One last thing... "store category" we have an ebay store but am unsure as to what value to use for that? would it be just what the stores page is called? or the "storecat=7796468011" ? screenshots provided...


And lastly now that the file is working okay on the eBay uk site... if I wanted to list the exact same file on the ebay US site through file exchange what would I need to change? apart from shipping, payment names etc, price (USD),category number, ?

Yes, your StoreCategory would be the number 7796468011.

I think this change to the Action meta data should suffice and that you might still be able to upload through the UK File Exchange portal. If not, you'll need to upload through the US portal.

You won't be able to create a US shipping policy on the UK site. Instead, log into the US site and create a new shipping policy for shipping to the US from abroad (if you don't already have one). Then add that policy name to your File Exchange spreadsheet.

Adjust your StartPrice value to reflect a number in USD.

The US item category may be different than the UK item category, although eBay has been trying to standardize the numbering as much as possible. In the case of women's swimwear, the numbers are identical. But always check the numbers when crossing sites.

Even if a category number is identical, there may be differences in item specifics for each country.

Change C:Colour to C:Color for the US search. There are a few other small differences, but they are probably not notable.

Please be aware that identical listings across different eBay platforms are subject to eBay's duplicate listings policy. The only way a seller can list exactly the same product on multiple platforms is for each county to exclude the other in shipping policies so that the duplicate listing will not appear in search on the other platform.

I cant seem to get onto file exchange on ebay.de? so am unsure as to what too put for the action* in column 1.. do you think this would work?

Germany has business requirements (90 days and some number of sales) before a File Exchange subscription is allowed on that site.

Additionally, the File Exchange upload on DE does not support a UTF-8 description, surprising as that may seem. If your description contains language symbols, create your spreadsheet as CP1252 or ISO 8859-1.

It is my understanding that you must upload to the site for which the spreadsheet is designed. I haven't tested or verified whether uploading a file with the above metadata to the US site would fail.

Your screenshot shows a problem with language elements (UTF-8 vs ISO 8859-1), as seen around the essets and umlauts.

This forum page is UTF-8. To manually convert the above UTF-8 to ISO, I would just copy the UTF-8 from here and paste into an open Notepad page and save in default ANSI format. The results should appear the same, as the German characters exist in the ANSI set and automatically convert in Notepad.  The difference between UTF-8 and ISO is that UTF-8 requires two bytes (characters) to express a visible character, whereas older ISO requires only one. That is why you may see two odd characters in your display where only one character belongs, indicating the data was read in the wrong format.

Yes I can use file exchange from uk to upload on German website the only problem I am now facing is the

Add or change your 'Action' statement to CC=CP1252. You might also eliminate the 'CC=' altogether and just let it default to the correct code page for that site.
