Did you mean:

Whose life did we improve by making tracking a two click process?

And why does clicking on the tracking number take you another link?

eBay, that was wrong.  Stupidly wrong.

and while I'm at it, why do some item specifics go away when you choose or enter one and others don't?  I don't hate the new format, but I find that annoying.   I picked my choice NOW GO AWAY!   I guess I add that complaint to the why do you ask the same question more than once or if I don't who made it, then when did they make it? Where did they make it?  What century, what decade.....

all I ask for is a brain to think when you make these questions up.

rant ended.

Mine; and it makes sense since it shows what really matters to a buyer or seller. Is in in the hands of the Post Office?

it's easier to read and I don't have to 'click' if I don't feel I need to.

Finally- I always put the tracking into USPS to see when there's an issue as their site always had more info on the tracking (faster) than eBay did.

When I click a tracking number, it opens a modal window showing the current status of the item.

When you say it is a two click process that takes you to another link, are you referring to the "tracking details" toggle that shows and hides all the historical tracking information that is no longer current?

I would guess the logic behind this is more complex than you think.

First, it means the buyer only sees the current tracking status, and is not distracted by past information (like when the USPS bounces the package back and forth twice before delivering it).

Second, it is probably provides a better experience on mobile devices where screen real estate is much less plentiful.

How many times a day do you need to see the outdated tracking information for an item?

I need to see all the information.

A) expanding the detail would simply show further down on the screen. And require less clicks. Buyer and seller status do not have to have the same details.  Might be better for some buyers I guess but is just as easy to cause misunderstandings.

B) I as a seller always want to see the full tracking.  I base my feedback timing and customer service for delays on looking the the detailed tracking.

C) The detail information is not "outdated" in many cases.  I have shipments now that show the status as "On the way to the buyer" and that is ALL.  That is almost useless except to know it was picked up.

D) eBay is choosing what status to show like "on it's way to the buyer".  This is going to result in a number of false statuses being shown in certain cases.  Mark my words.

eBay could have simply made expansion of the tracking information as  a "sticky" option.  That way sellers could see full info in they want to.  I did not ask for a "dumbed down" interface, who did?
