I added a category yesterday, over 24 hours ago. When I try to add another category an error pops up "You cannot add categories until we've completed your previous request."
OK, the category I added is there. Just how long does it take to complete my request??
Anybody else run into this? And if so, how to fix it. Ebay is so hard to contact and understand when you finally get thru.

Make sure any listing templates you have created are not using a category or sub category that was changed or deleted. Not 100% sure that is what fixed it for me but I stopped getting the error after.

I have never had this happen. I just added two categories recently one after the other/

Thanks, I also tried to delete the one I added and got the same error except with "You cannot delete categories until we've completed your previous request."

Sometimes I have to wait for the category to show in order to get the exact link so that I can copy and paste it in the listing. I noticed that if you add an item to the category, it speeds up the process and shows up faster. Edit any listing and add the new category as a second store category. This may help.

Either the problem resolved itself or an ebay moderator saw this and fixed it (yea! right!)

I've got the same problem, going on for 2 days now. 3 attempts to get "help" from ebay haven't helped any. Very frustrating!

Having the same issue. When I attempt to add or delete categories (that are devoid of any listings) I receive this message "You cannot add categories until we've completed your previous request." and/or "You cannot delete categories until we've completed your previous request." Two days later I am still having the same issue.

I had this issue earlier today too for no obvious reason, but it seemed to have resolved itself by this evening so perhaps eBay fixed the issue.

Been having this issue as well. The eBay chat rep had my clear out my cache, and that worked for one deletion, but it's back to the same behavior ("You cannot delete categories until we've completed your previous request.") This is the same message for deleting, moving or adding.

Update: I just got off the chat again with an eBay CS Rep. Here is what he said:
"I made an investigation and I found out that we have a glitch on the system. What I can do is to add your account on the ticket."
Yes, please add my account to the ticket.
"There is no available work around as of yet."
OK, timeframe as to when it will be fixed?
"We do not have any estimated timeframe because it was just recently discovered."
This is blatantly false, as you can see this issue being brought up in posts that are a couple of years old. No resolution on any of them. My categories are a big old mess until this can get solved. Embarassing.

I had this problem about two weeks ago. waited two days still couldn't add a new category. I then tried to delete the last item I added and it cleared things up for me. Some would not delete but that one did. I know some have said delete has not worked but it did for me. Worth a try.
Just realized this thread is about four months old and the problem still exists

Just set up my store yesterday and started getting that same error. Did all of the log out, reboot the computer, log back in and even waited a day and it still is popping up. I am not even halfway done adding categories and sub categories. Definitely will reach out.
Hoping they find a fix soon but as of 10/22/20 it is still occurring.

Just wanted to add that I reached out to customer service and the person who helped me could see the issue and immediately alerted IT...they apparently freed up the problem/glitch and I am back to adding categories. Hopefully it will stay that way!

Yep same here, Hey Ebay, can you look at my store and fix this or add me to the list. Must be something simple but common if it keeps happening, however I have posted multiple times now about my store display theme not working. This has been days now and when i go to edit theme it shows a nice theme, colorful, but when I go to my store it's not what's in the editor and very plain and generic. Can you please check my theme and this category problem ebay/moderator/ thank you
