Bulk Listing

Hello and good morning to everyone out there in Ebay world!! I was writing this post today in hopes of getting some help with listing bulk products using CSV template upload. I have tried over and over and it keeps throwing error codes and just says failed to upload. The thing is it seems like its never the same error code either, I just tried again right before writing this and failed with code 717 737  Error - The package weight is not valid or is missing. Provide a valid number for the weight.||Error - Please enter a valid postal code.|

can someone please help me, i really need to have the ability to list in bulk, and if not here what is the best third party app to use to speed up lising process.

you might post on the Ebay seller tools board.......go to the top of this page and click on Buying/Selling to find it.  Several experts on CVS use hang out over there.........

Hi @cardgoddess

I'll be happy to walk you through the process.

First, within Seller Hub > Reports > Uploads > get Template ...

download a listing template for the category in which you are listing.

https://www.ebay.com/sh/reports/uploads

It appears you are listing mostly sports trading cards singles, so that is the template to download from eBay.

Next, please let me know if you are using business shipping policies or whether you are selecting the shipping details within each listing.

As to error messages, if the file is rejected outright, there is a problem with the basic file structure.

If the file is accepted, and there is an error message, you may actually encounter subsequent errors as you make each correction. The errors are left to right in the file. So the upload will likely fail at the leftmost error. When that is cleared, the next error will be detected. It can be a stepwise process to clear errors.

From the few messages you posted, it sounds like you are using calculated shipping. Here are the columns that will need to be provided for calculated shipping, and that should also be added to allow better international calculations.

There are two weight columns that expect whole numbers. The first is whole pounds and the second is whole ounces. You will also need to state whether this is imperial or metric, but adding the units column:
    • WeightMajor
    • WeightMinor

    • WeightUnit ("lb" or "kg")

You may also need to supply dimensions in whole units (these would be inches if your WeightUnit is "lb", for the imperial system:
    • PackageLength
    • PackageWidth
    • PackageHeight

There are two more fields related to shipping. The "None" package type is for local pickup, while the "USPSLargePack is basically any box for any carrier:
    • PackageType ("None", "Letter", "LargeEnvelope", "PackageThickEnvelope", "USPSLargePack" works for any carrier)
    • PostalCode  (this is the "shipfrom" zip code and can be used in place of the "Location" header).

So on the cvs file I get from ebay it doesn't have those columns you are writing about (weight, package dimensions, postal code,etc...) so do I need to add those cutom columns myself and then use them by filling in the correct data?? I read most, if not all info and procedures that ebay provided and says to do and too be honest I fweel a businesss this global size should have better info and explanations, becase they make it seem that all you had to enter was your business policy names for ship, refund, payment and you didnt need to worry about the other open fields...O well I guess im gonna try what you posted and go from there

Are you sure those columns are not there? I don't think you can add any columns or the template can't be uploaded.

I don't use this myself, but when I looked at the template, it appeared that some columns were hidden (when viewing the file in Excel) and needed to be unhidden.

If that's not the issue, then please wait for @shipscript to get back to you. They know what they're talking about.

If you are using Business Policies, you will notice that package specs are not part of any of your business policies, but are needed for calculated shipping. So they must be added to the Category Listing Template that eBay provides, just as you would need to add them to the listing creation form when manually listing.

Add the columns for package specs to your spreadsheet, with values for any listings that use calculated shipping.

There are many other columns that can be added to the category spreadsheet. eBay doesn't list them all in the general instructions for using Seller Hub Uploads. Some are more advanced and can be gleaned from the old File Exchange manual or from the Trading API.

The hidden column is the Category ID. It's hidden because the template is designed for that category and eBay doesn't want that number changed.

However, there are also hidden sheets. The main hidden sheet provides values for the Item Specifics (aspects). The trading card template also has a hidden sheet for card conditions (ConditionDescriptors).

The hidden fields and sheets are those that are accessed by the page macros/scripts. If you do not have macros/scripts enabled, then you may need to unhide those columns and pages to read the values that are available to you. Since I don't have the feature enabled, I opened the hidden pages to get the available  values.

I have populated an XLSX spreadsheet with a single card listing and a card variation listing to illustrate the columns that may be needed to upload trading cards.

https://shipscript.com/ebayhelp/file_exchange/eBay-category-listing-sport-trading-cards_example_8SEP...

The sample sports trading card spreadsheet is color coded to group blocks of elements and will illustrate:

  • Single listing vs variation listing
  • Calculated shipping with Free option
  • Graded vs ungraded card
  • Business policies vs no policies

The order of the item specifics in a downloadable template will change based on user search preferences.  There is no required order for them, although eBay will provide the most-searched first.
