So i am curious how others handle these situations, i sell mostly vintage stuff and i dont see a reason for a return unless not as described, i only had two return requests total and i accepted them both and both times there was a issue, one time guy took what he needed for parts and sent back the rest, he even posted the stolen parts for sale, i wont get into that i already posted about that when it happened. I got lucky and eBay sided with me. Then another time, guy waited 45 days to return and said the blade did not fit, but when i got it, it was fine. So i got a return today and as always i check there feedback to see what kind of person i am dealing with. So this person has not left any negatives but they clearly return a lot of stuff cause he only left feedback on items he returned and there's a lot of him saying buyer let me return even though they dont accept returns, all he left feedback is about how he returned it, but with different wording sometimes. i dont have to take the return for the reason they posted, they dont like the item and doesn't reach my expectations. I reached out with no answer asking why and am willing to work with the person if there is a issue. its only been half a day since the request. they might reply.
I am just going to accept the return but i am always curious how others would handle this, i am hesitant but going to accept.
it says buyer pays return shipping. its was only a 40 dollar item but was 20 to ship it, i know i can deduct that when i receive it. so i am curious if any of you people that accept returns charge them shipping both ways.

I don't have a problem accepting returns and don't get that many.
When I use calculated shipping, I always deduct the original shipping they paid from the refund and so far haven't had any problems.

You won't have to manually deduct anything from the refund for them shipping it back to you. For the reason they chose that "they just didn't like it" (and you not having free returns), eBay will deduct the cost of the label for returning it to you from their refund.
If you originally charged shipping separately for the item when you refund there should be a toggle to refund the shipping they originally paid or not. If you have free shipping it's generally standard to just refund everything. Some people do calculated shipping just for this reason. If you are top rated seller with buyer pays or free returns you also could take up to 50% off the refund if the item comes back to you damaged. You would also be protected from any negative feedback they might leave you. I think most everyone should at least have buyer pay returns for these added protections.

The few remorse returns I've had, the buyer has always been charged separately for the return shipping.
It's been 3 to 5 years since I've had a return, so they might have changed that since then.

depends on the choice they choose but when i open the return has a few options, i can accepted return and buyer pays return shipping, and i can deduct anything when i get it. also has offer to give them a partial refund for once change for them to accept that, or give full refund and message buyer.

So i will give a little update, buyer finally messaged me back after a couple days and there reason for not liking it was that he seen the pics and he said it looked like they were all spread out and random size pendulums and he was hoping one size fit the clock. now this is frustrating cause i was very descriptive and there was only two size pendulums and the main pics shows them all the 13" on one side and all the 17" on another sides, they were even with each other to avoid it looking like there was different sizes. then follows a few pics with them next to a tape measure, so a buyer can confirm my descriptions accurate or incase they dont read it. I also mention in the description that there are two sizes and explain the size. I did all that to avoid a situation like this. I accepted the return but person clearly does not look at pics or description! Shipping will be on them. blocked!

I had a buyer file an INAD return, so I refunded him right away. But I toggled the button that allows shipping to be excluded from the refund amount. I thought it was A-OK to do that.
However, after the refund was processed, I realized that Ebay covered the shipping charge for me and refunded that shipping charge to my buyer. I didn't know Ebay would cover the shipping refund, and I thought I was allowed to deduct that shipping charge.
I don't want to unfairly force Ebay to cover my shipping charges when refunding my customer because that can negatively affect my seller rating and hurt my account in the future. I would like to pay Ebay back so I am not causing any issue with my seller rating.
How do I do that?
Who can I speak to?
Has anyone been in the same situation before? You get an INAD return, you complete the refund but toggle the button to deduct shipping charges from the refund amount. But because it is an INAD return, Ebay covers the shipping charges and then.....................................what is the result? Is your account hurt because you didn't provide the full refund?
Thanks in advance for any responses.

On item NOT described cases, the buyer gets a full refund. I would deduct the shipping from this item if the item is back in the same condition. Go slow when you refund so that you do not accidently give a full refund. Make sure that you block this bad buyer. For the time being, do not relist the item. Retake the photos and relist at a later date.

Thanks for the response ms. rodriguez.
My items is as described, but I am guessing the buyer just wanted a refund, so he selected INAD. I don't know for sure, but that is my guess.
I gave a full refund minus the shipping cost, but then I noticed Ebay covered the buyer's shipping charge and refunded that back to him.
My question is - will Ebay put a strike on my account because they covered the shipping cost when the refund was issued? If so, can I rectify this and pay Ebay back for the shipping cost refund?

I would politely explain in a non condescending way but yet still slightly condescending that the item was $40 and that paying shipping two ways means they would almost be paying $40 to give you back your item with nothing to show for it.

IF ebay refunded the shipping, then they will most likely pull the funds from you. The buyer opened an item NOT as described case. That was why you could not withhold the shipping fee. They probably lied to get a full refund.
I do not know if they will "ding" your account because of this. Make sure that you block the buyer.

I tried to explain to the buyer! i sent him a couple messages politely but at the same time firm about how this could be handled and choices. i even offered to send him 20 bucks back and just keep them, and that's all he will end up with anyway. they sent me the one message back, just telling me there sad excuse and never heard back the item was shipped ASAP so should have it any day. I will give a update when it comes and if there are any issues, hope there are none!!!

I got the package back today, and refunded the buyer for just the price of item. I think the buyer either needed money or IDK, the box was never opened. i ran two rows of this special color tape along the long way (its brown but two tone, and ran it along the edge of the package as well, i used the Priority mail box that is similar to the longer medium flat rate box and the tape was never cut either end and the self seal is still strong, stuff was packed in well just as i packed them, nothing was opened. i blocked them as soon as the return was requested. buyer has never messaged me back or responded besides the fake excuse that they were all different sizes and none would fit this person clock, they clearly never tried!!!
